The last songs are a little bit too slow for my taste but this is the most addictive album i had hear in a long time ago... great accomplish for a 00s album when im listening to Ray charles, King Crimson, Jeff Buckley, Tricky, etc.
Yes, excellent album. Although the songs get too quiet after I'm the Man Who Loves You. I am Trying to Break Your Heart and Jesus, Etc are masterpieces. Summer Teeth is equally good, if not better. The rest of their albums aren't. Haven't heard their newest one yet though.
"Jesus etc." is an amazing song, without a doubt the band's best song. But I think YOF contains some songs that are not that good. As a whole, I prefer "Summerteeth" and even "AGIB" in a way.
My favourite track on AGIB is "Hell is chrome". I really dig this song. When he sings "he was chrome and he said...Come with me...", I really like the soft voice.
I also like a lot "At least that's what you said", the great noisy guitars of "Spiders (Kidsmoke)". "Hummingbird" is very poppy and I like that. "Handshake drugs" is a very good song too.
One other reason why I like this album more than the others is that the only time I've been to a Wilco gig was during the AGIB european tour. It was in Paris in july 2004 at La Maroquinerie. This show was so great and the songs of the album played even much better than on the album that for this day every time I listen to this album it reminds me such good feelings.
I think Wilco is the most overrated band out there right now. I've always thought they were at their best playing throwback country like Casino Queen. The rest gets boring over a whole album. Plus, I think the success of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot has more to do with the story behind the album than the songs on the album. Granted, there are a few good songs, but I don't think the album would have received even close to the acclaim it has if it weren't for the story that surrounds it.
John, I agree with you concerning the success of YOF. This album is good but probably wouldn't have had the same success without the story behind it. But concerning their whole carreer, I'm not sure Wilco is overrated. The word "overrated" is maybe too extreme. Wilco has made some great songs and almost everybody would be agree to say that Wilco is one of 20 best bands of the last years.
Well, being in the top 20 best bands recently isn't saying much really since most bands don't have the catalog to lay claim to that, but I don't think I would put them there. They've never made a really great album, and if it weren't for Yankee Hotel they'd be just another alt-country band and be just as acclaimed as Uncle Tupelo ever was. Pretty good, but not great. I really think their whole reputation lies on the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot story.
