Re: NME Greatest Indie Anthems

*Sigh* Same old tired rubbish from that magazine. There's a reason why everyone outside the UK hated Oasis, y'know

And the worship to Pete Doherty and The Libertines they give cannot be healthy.

Re: NME Greatest Indie Anthems

Smells Like Teen Spirit an indie anthem?
Smells like an out of touch mag to me

Re: NME Greatest Indie Anthems

Voted for by NME readers and XFM listeners. Indie means something different in the UK too.

Re: NME Greatest Indie Anthems

well it definitely doesn't mean independent. Most of these songs are owned by one of the major labels. Franz Ferdinand was one of the bands specifically mentioned in the Sony payola bust a couple years ago. Maybe they mean best alternative music anthems. However it doesn't surprise me that the buggers put all their UK bands at the top.

Re: NME Greatest Indie Anthems

So Domino records is a major is it? Who cares what record label they might be signed to elsewhere in the world. Aside from one or two exceptions these tracks were released in the UK on autonomous Indie labels or under parachute indie labels.

Re: NME Greatest Indie Anthems

See, the NME used to be good, but this new editor has just turned it into a scenster rag :/ Which listens to nothing but British "indie"

Re: NME Greatest Indie Anthems

That second list makes more sense. It doesn't pretend that major label groups like Nirvana, Radiohead, The Verve, The Breeders and The Strokes are indie.
