sorry to dig up that old thread, but I'm looking at back threads that were published before I knew the site, in order to know you better
So, here's my top 10 artists (that could be an opportunity for those who didn't do theirs)
1. Bruce Springsteen (by loyalty)
2. The Beatles
3. Georges Brassens (great French poet, singer of the 50s/60s)
4. Johnny Cash
5. Tom Waits
6. Leadbelly
7. Robert Wyatt
8. Neil Young
9. The Divine Comedy
10.Ray Charles
For some reason, Debussy's works speak to me in a way that no other classical music does.
Yes, La Mer is wonderful, especially the last two minutes of the first movement. My personal favorite is Nuages from Nocturnes (L.91). And Clair de Lune (of course)!
1. The Cure
2. The White Stripes
3. Radiohead
4. Nine Inch Nails
5. The Smiths
6. A Tribe Called Quest
7. The Killers
8. Jimi Hendrix
9. Led Zeppelin
10. Depeche Mode
For Fun, I wanted to put out a list that looked similar to this:
1. Stryper
2. Winger
3. Trixter
4. Bang tango
5. Pretty Boy Floyd
6. Loverboy
7. Mr. Big
8. Ugly Kid Joe
9. Hanson
10. Toby Keith
But I just couldn't put that list out with a straight face!!!
Rather than choosing the "acceptable" people, I decided I would use this method. I wrote down a list of the people from whom I have either a lot of albums, a lot of singles, or a lot of MP3/WMA (or all 3). Then I'd winnow it down to 10 by writing down as many of the songs as I love by each of them and arrive at a honest 10. Here we go:
1) Beach Boys-46 songs
2) Beatles-43 songs
3) The Choir-27 songs (This is NOT the 60s band from Cleveland that did "It's Cold Outside" though I like them too.)
Band is drummer/lyricist Steve Hindalong, guitarist/vocalist Derri Daugherty, bassist Tim Chandler and woodwind man "Buckeye" Dan Michaels.

4)Petra-21 songs
5)Johnny Cash, Steely Dan, Rolling Stones-15 songs
6)Elvis Presley, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder-13 songs
7)Paul Simon, The Eagles, DeGarmo and Key, Daniel Amos (http://www.myspace.com/danielamosmusic)-12 songs
8)Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers,U2-11 songs
9)Elvis Costello-10 songs
10)The Monkees, David Bowie, Cake, Larry Norman (http://www.larrynorman.com/)-9 songs
On a normal day, Old Grumpy would head the list, but he's been pushed to number two recently, while I've been discovering the CD reissues of PBS, half of which I'd never even heard on vinyl (he'll be back, though):
1) Pearls Before Swine/Tom Rapp
2) Bob Dylan
3) The National
4) Warren Zevon
5) P.J. Harvey
6) Steve Wynn
7) Neil Young
8) Leonard Cohen
9) Nick Cave
10) Arcade Fire
Snusmumrik, it's a very nice surprise to see Steve Wynn on your list. I just recently rediscovered his music; I've had Days of Wine and Roses and Medicine Show on vinyl since I was a teen, but I never bothered to replace them once I made the move to digital, and to be honest I'd pretty much forgotten about him/them. However, I recently stumbled across Tick...tick...tick... in a second-hand bind, and promptly fell in love with it to the extent that it’s probably my favourite guitar rock album of the past few years. Getting those Dream Syndicate albums on disc and finding more of his solo stuff has now moved to the top of my musical priorities.
damosuzuki, great to hear it!
Medicine show is reportedly impossible to get on CD (I'm keeping my cassette tape copy in the safe), but a lot of it is quite legally downloadable from Steve's http://stevewynn.net/ site, I've heard.
