songs where both the cover and the original made the list

i can think of two.

hurt (johnny cash, nine inch nails)
comfortably numb (scissor sisters, pink floyd)

can anyone think of any others?

Re: songs where both the cover and the original made the list

all along the watchtower (dylan, hendrix)
with a little help from my friends (beatles, joe cocker)
respect (otis redding, aretha franklin)
satisfaction (rolling stones, devo)
Gloria (patti smith, them)
Mr. Tambourine Man (Dylan, Byrds)
Blue Suede Shoes (Presley, Perkins)

Re: songs where both the cover and the original made the list

wow. there's more than i thought. forgot about hendrix. the others i wouldn't have guessed. is that all?

Re: songs where both the cover and the original made the list

Killing Me Softly (Roberta Flack & Fugees)
Hounds Of Love (Kate Bush & The Futureheads)
Only Love Can Break Your Heart (Neil Young & Saint Etienne)
Money (Barrett Strong & Flying Lizards)
I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Marvin Gaye & The Slits)
Always On My Mind (Elvis Presley & Willie Nelson)

I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Marvin Gaye & The Slits)
None of these is the original though. The song was first recorded by Gladys Knight & The Pips.

Another one:
Louie Louie (Richard Berry & The Kingsmen)

The fact that 3 of the top 10 songs of all time at AM are actually covers is something that I personally cannot understand.

Re: songs where both the cover and the original made the list

I just remembered another

Take me to the River (Al Green and Talking Heads)

never mind all the hundreds of recorded and re-recorded jazz standards and hip hop songs that sample an entire song and just lay a couple verses overtop (Puff Daddy, I'm looking at you).

Re: songs where both the cover and the original made the list

got one : Black Steel (Public Enemy and Tricky), strange cover but cover anyway

Re: songs where both the cover and the original made the list

Some more:

Blue Moon of Kentucky: Bill Monroe & Elvis
Hound Dog: Big Mama Thornton & Elvis
Walk This Way: Aerosmith & Run-DMC (not sure if this actually counts, since Aerosmith plays on both...)

"Crossroads" by Cream is basically a straight cover of Robert Johnson's Cross Road Blues.

And, if you allow for the different lyrics, Surfin' USA is basically a cover of Chuck Berry's Sweet Little Sixteen.

Re: songs where both the cover and the original made the list

Just thought of one more: Twist & Shout (Beatles & Isley Bros.)
