1990's a tough year to find good music, but I'm sure 1991 will be even more difficult because that was the year that sorts of great stuff was released.

I'll post a songs list soon but first, I was thinking, weren't The La's "There She Goes", Electronic "Getting Away With It", N.W.A. "Express Yourself" and maybe a couple of others released as singles before 1990? I might be wrong, I'm not sure. Great idea Henrik!

"There She Goes" is definitely pre-'90 and "Getting Away with It"is December '89 iirc. So take them off my list then. Probably NWA as well.

Shouldn't we use Acclaimed Music's year lists as a guide in case there is any confusion over what year is associated with each song/album? That's what I'm doing, since I'm not old enough to know if singles were released before albums from 1989-91. It looks like that was the case with Soon and a couple Primal Scream tracks. And There She Goes was listed as 1990. Could it have been released in 1989 and only gained real exposure the year after?

"There She Goes" was first released in 1988 and then re-released as a new version in 1990. Thus, I should probably move the song to the 1988 list at AM.

The correct thing would be to do the same in this forum poll. But since it's currently listed at 1990 at AM and many of you have already included the song in your lists, maybe we should keep it eligible for this poll?

Please give me a few quick opinions on this and I'll make a decision tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The new version is the one most known and loved, and the album came out in 1990, and the song made it's biggest impact that year, plus, FAR too many people have already put "There She Goes" on their singles lists, let's just leave it in 1990 so we don't make things too complicated

I would place "There She Goes" in 1991. That is when it charted here in America. My song rankings are all based on when the song charted in America (or failing that when it charted in England, or failing that when it first appeared as a single/album track).

In the end, I am not sure it matters. If I have, say, U2's "One" in 1992 and others have it in 1991, Henrik could just assign all the votes and point tallies for the song to the year of his choice (based on the methodology he prefers). As long as my vote is counted, the question of towards what year is irrelevant to me.

I've got to add that it seems wierd to compile a best of the 90's list based on a summation of 10 yearly lists, after all not all years were equal in terms of great music. My #1 of 1990 would only fall at #5 if it had come out in 1991. Also, about the point system I can't say that I like my #1 50 times more than my #20. #20 is strong showing, it definitely deserves more than 1 point.

Ketama are, along with Pata Negra, the creators of the “new flamenco” style. But while Pata Negra used the blues as the basis to renew flamenco, Ketama fused flamenco with Caribbean styles like salsa or son. In 1990 they faced the challenge of making a worthy follow-up to the acclaimed “Songhai” album (the one and only Spanish album in AM lists till the 2006 ones), made in collaboration with Mali kora-player Toumani Diabaté and English bass-player Danny Thompson. Also it was the first full album after the desertion of Ray Heredia (a founding member that represented the more innovative side of the band, with an interesting solo career truncated by his early death by heroin overdose in 1991). Antonio Carmona emerged as the new front-man of the band, sharing this role with José Soto “Sorderita” (that represented the more purist flamenco side of Ketama and ended leaving the band in 1992). The 1990 album “…y es ke me han kambiao los tiempos” (“…and Times Had Changed Me”), even lacking the adventurous side of the previous effort, was an interesting work that supposed the achievement of public acclaim in Spain, success that came to a peak in 1995 with its live album “De akí a Ketama”.
The album opener was “Loko” (“Krazy”), a song with an irresistible Caribbean rhythm and its landmark mix of Latin brass section and Spanish guitars. Forget about the silly lyrics (well, like many others Latin or dance styles songs are a celebration of the joy of sex and love) and listen to the music. Picture yourself in a Spanish summer “verbena” or in a beach party on a Caribbean island. Try to imagine yourself dancing with a black beauty with your hand on her waist while she sensually swings her hips. You will go “krazy” too. That’s for sure.
