It's really amazing that 'Pablo Honey' and 'Hail to the Thief' are recorded by the same band, and it's very interesting to see the different Radiohead tastes coming out of these individual top 10s. My taste is that I like almost everything in their output, but not the harder songs on The Bends. There's something with the guitar sound that I don't like. To me, The Bends wasn't a step forward from Pablo Honey, it had more muscles but less charm. Airbag is the big surprise for me ín the list above, as I have always seen the song as an unfortunate leftover from The Bends, OK Computer would have been a much better album if it had started with Paranoid Android. However, OK Computer was a major step forward from The Bends as the slow/melancholy songs were now in vast majority. Interestingly though, I really like the harder songs on their later albums (I Might Be Wrong for example), probably because hard isn't the right word here, the grunge guitars are gone, it's just that some of the songs are more beat-driven. Anyway, that's just how Radiohead sound in my ears and of course I respect all other opinions.
Alright, as I went into talking about grunge here, I'll better start the Nirvana thread right away. (That's absolutely not a bad thing at all!)
yeah. airbag supridsed me the most too... to my ears, it's the weakest song on OK computer (which hardly says anything bad about it). But you have to admit, that opening guitar riff introduces the album well.
no karma police in the top 10, thats increadible, its clearly one of their best songs, with a great clip. national anthem on the other hand is by no means their 3rd best song, i think airbag is not a bad track, however the only track i feel is not solid on ok computer is climbing up the walls, also no high and dry on the list, interesting.
The real Radiohead fan is Ana, my wife, the proud owner of a Thom Yorke autograph. We waited for more than two hours outside the Las Ventas Bullring in Madrid in July 2003 (the things you do for love!). Well, that’s her list:

Well, I’ve never left out “Let Down”, but show me a couple without any small difference.
By the way, I think Ana is the first girl voting in an AM poll. Am I wrong, Henrik?

I heard that Thom Yorke's own favourite Radiohead song was How to Disappear Completely. I believe the band said Lucky, and Pyramid Song, had been their "best" songs though. Lucky I feel is very overrated by these lists, it's probably my least favourite on 'OK Computer' (which is, otherwise, quite flawless or at least consistent). Pyramid and How to Disappear are among my favourites, definitely, but I wanted to represent some others. How to Disappear can really only be listened to in a certain type of mood, as with most of 'Kid A'. When you feel like it, it is even more emotionally involving than any of their other albums though, even if it only gets listened to on rare occasions these days. Amnesiac is a bit more listenable and exciting, I think, and has some real high points (Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army?, Knives Out, Like Spinning Plates). Packt like sardines is also one of their few songs that's really unusual, yet catchy.
I disagree with what Hendrik said about Airbag. For me, at first I couldn't get into the harder rock tracks on The Bends either, but that's only because I didn't listen to hard rock at all. Now My Iron Lung and Just (love the guitar solo! probably their best) are some of the only songs on there I never get tired of. Bones is just poor, though.
One thing I wanted to ask if anyone knows. It does appear this site has a bit of a pro-Radiohead slant somehow, rather than being objective statistics.
Obviously not intentionally pro-Radiohead, I know critics in general love Radiohead so I'd expect to see their albums very high. But still, maybe a certain type of critic that usually rates Radiohead exceptionally highly. Like when you look at the end of year lists for recent years especially, I think it becomes clear they seem to overemphasize "indie rock" sort of critics, not just because of Radiohead, but certain other types of things that appear very high, things which are absolutely not popular or even known in the general population, even by mainstream sorts of critics (e.g. LCD Soundsystem's Losing My Edge is among the 20 best songs of the 2000s. I personally like the song a lot, but I think it was rated highly by only a small range of critics. I bet many critics have never heard of the song).
Don't get me wrong, I am not bashing Radiohead, I just think the average person may not take this site seriously when you have an appearance of consensus around things like . When it comes to OK Computer or even maybe Kid A, I can see that it got a huge amount of critical attention. But maybe your lists should take into account some kind of consensus across "genres" for your top picks of each year. So if it's mostly rock and pop magazines that are ranking The Bends highly, but rock, pop, hip-hop, soul, electronic, world music, jazz, whatever magazines are all ranking Bjork, Tricky or Oasis highly, then The Bends should be ranked lower than Bjork, Tricky and Oasis even if it had more overall number of lists giving it high placements. Or if it's mostly internet indie magazines ranking Kid A highly, but a range of print and internet magazines and mainstream and non-mainstream that are ranking The Marshall Mathers LP and Stankonia highly, those should win the rankings.
I don't know if you already do that. But it might help the seeming bias toward "Pitchfork" type of lists here.
The critics lists are weighted to achieve more balance across countries, but I'm not using weight to achieve balance across genres. And I really don't think there's an adequate way of doing this, as very few critics (or critic sources) can be categorized to a specific genre. For example, although Pitchfork is mainly an indie zine, they often include pop, hip-hop, jazz and world music in their lists as well.
And even if it was possible to categorize critics into genres, the total number of critics in each category would be difficult to estimate. Hence, I wouldn't know what to balance against.
If you think some genres are underrated, then find me more such critics lists!
I thought about it a bit more and I think the question didn't need to be asked. The answer is that the type of magazines that make lists of music tend to like indie rock. There are many that don't, but enough so it probably skews the results that way. How many sources these days even make "best songs of the year" type lists? It can't be that many. So your site is just categorizing the existing bias- while exposing tons of brilliant albums of course. :)

My love for radiohead has mellowed out over time - used to love OKC but now can't understand why people put airbag and paranoid android so high. I think the beginning is really weak until you get to that fabulous Exit Music/Let Down/Karma Police section. Kid A/Amnesiac dominates my list.
