The answer depends on if you look at the very top of the yearlists or if you look at the total number of records in the all-time top 2500. There's also a huge difference between albums and songs. The all-time top 100 songs list is dominated by songs from the 60's (44 songs), while the all-time top 100 albums list is dominated by albums from the 70's (39 albums). Therefore I don't publish a ranking list of the most acclaimed years. But nevertheless, here are some statistics:
Most albums in the all-time top 100: 1971 (9 albums)
Most albums in the all-time top 2500: 1970 (75 albums)
Most songs in the all-time top 100: 1965 and 1967 (8 songs)
Most songs in the all-time top 2500: 1965 (71 songs)
One thing i don't like about these lists is because they're so biased towards the "classics" From what heear music is pretty much of the same quality from every decade.
