Interesting to see a list of two half-decades. As music isn't often broken down that way I was sort of thinking
"But aren't these records from two different eras ... No, wait a minute, these albums actually have a lot more in common than what the early 70s albums have in common with the punk and disco of the late 70s... Cool."

Btw. Henrik, I've been planning to ask you, would the lists of "Top 3 artists of such-and-such a decade" be any different if "decades" were counted e.g. 1966-1975 etc.? I assume they might (Cf. Stones being no. 3 in the two decades when they did memorable work, but all time artists no. 2), but then you're the statistics guy ...

And Stevie Wonder disappearing out of view altogether (how did THAT happen?), while Springsteen rises from not being there at all in the decade top three's on the AM main page to suddenly being the no. 1 artist in the 75-84 decade (as I should have guessed he would).

Lists are fun, but statistics in itself is a subject worth studying too, I gotta conclude ... :-)

At first blush this surprised me, but 1965-1974 does not take into account Songs in the Key of Life and its attendant singles. The strength of that has to be greater than Stevie's '60s output, which makes it natural from him to do much better for 1970-79.

Dave, this thread is based on reader-generated lists compiled at the message board for a radio show called SOUND OPINIONS (hence, SOMB). The very first list in the thread was for singles from 1950-1964, and, unfortunately, that has remained the subject heading for most of the posts that have followed, which cover lists of albums and singles from each of the succeeding ten-year periods. Your confusion is understandable, but once you know what's going on, the lists are quite easy to follow.
