I meant "White Blood Cells" not "Elephant".
Glad to see The Flaming Lips, Scissor Sisters and Magnetic Fields (which was released in 2000 in Europe) in this list.
Mars Volta's there too, strange one.
Any list with Annie's Anniemal gets points from me!
And any list with Håkan Hellström on it gets points from ME! (no idea what I'm talking about, I just like his name... might be some other defiant heir of Isildor, who knows........)
Say, Jacek, what would be the three or four most obviously truly great items left out of this list according to you?
For all I know, your criticism may be perfectly justified, I just think I'm losing count these days :-)
Well, the only album I think should absolutely be on the list is Radiohead's "Kid A" (and "Agaetis Byrjun, if you consider it a 2000 release). But my main complaint is not that they left out my personal favourites, but many of their picks are very unimpressive. Somebody please tell me what's so great about the White Stripes, because I fail to see it. Same for Outkast (Stankonia is much better) or Coldplay. The Flaming Lips rule though.
I guess the Whites Stripes get acclaim for being accesible in a "Pop with an indie attitude" sort of way?
White Blood Cells is a great album that is stuffed with anthemic, incisive, and emotional songs. And it has some of the most visceral sonics of the decade despite the basic blues palette. Listen to that first feedback squeal into Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground and you are hooked in anticipation of the coming explosion. They did it simple, and they did it right.
First list to not have any of the big three. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the only one too. I guess these 21 are better than Funeral, Kid A, Is This It, and YHF :(.
This is an old thread from 2006. The list is already on AM.
Glad to see Antony get some props.
Looks like The Blueprint is going to bump YHF back down.
So why isnt this list being addded to the spreadsheet???
