Re: The Acclaimed Music Forum Top 100(+) Songs

Interesting that The Band's "Whispering Pines" was its only song to make the Top 200, over what I would consider better known and better quality songs such as The Weight and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.

Certainly "The Weight" and "The Night..." are better known, but IMO opinion "Whispering Pines" is the most beautifully wrought thing The Band ever did.

Plus, I think it's sorta cool when lesser-known songs make high appearances. For example, "Moonage Daydream" and "Five Years" making short work of "Starman", "Suffragette City" and "Ziggy Stardust".

The Acclaimed Music Forum Top Songs By Year

All right, here's my last big post on this. I broke out Top 5s by year, with 2 caveats:

1. For each Top 5, only 1 song per artist (for variety's sake).

Re: The Acclaimed Music Forum Top 100(+) Songs

I managed to find an older list from sonofsamiam on my hard drive. This list is now also available here.

Here are some examples of how sonofsamiam's opinion has changed over time (1,5 years between the lists).

(Sonofsamiam, I do hope that you have nothing against this comparison. I really enjoyed doing this.)

New position given first, old position within brackets.
1 (2) Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit
2 (4) Glen Campbell - Wichita Lineman
3 ( Curtis Mayfield - Right on for the Darkness
4 (66) John Coltrane - Psalm
5 (6) Stevie Wonder - Living for the City
6 (3) The Beach Boys - God Only Knows
7 (13) Charles Mingus - The Shoes of the Fisherman's Wife are Some Jiveass Slippers
8 (11) Joni Mitchell - River
9 (not in the top 1400!) Talk Talk - The Rainbow
10 (1 Fela Kuti - Zombie
...
15 (5) John Coltrane - Acknowledgement
...
17 (10) David Bowie - "Heroes"
18 (1) The Beatles - A Day in the Life
...
51 (9) Freda Payne - Band of Gold
...
254 (7) Nick Drake - Northern Sky (oh no!)

Sonofsamiam, has Jacek had any impact on you regarding the Talk Talk song? (Hint: say yes, this will make him happy!)

Re: The Acclaimed Music Forum Top 100(+) Songs

I don't think I had any impact on sonofsamiam regarding "Rainbow". "Spirit of Eden" was very high on the list he sent me for the albums poll and that was before he knew I was a Talk Talk fan.

Re: The Acclaimed Music Forum Top 100(+) Songs

Ah, you found my old list! I haven't gone back and looked at that, but I suspect much has changed.

I've REALLY gotten into Talk Talk in the last couple years, and "The Rainbow"'s high inclusion reflects that.

I'm sort of sad that "Northern Sky" took a plunge, but I just got a little sick of it. In a few years, it may well climb back up.

Re: Re: The Acclaimed Music Forum Top 100(+) Songs

Just wondering if anyone can remember some list that came from songwriters that listed In My Life as the top song of all time. (It would also be high on my list).

And I think there was something about Yesterday being the most covered song of all time as well, if that is a list.

Zlatan - Question???

Please contact me if you are still there!

Re: The Acclaimed Music Forum Top 100(+) Songs

Robb W.A de Bretan is the best guitar player I have ever seen. Picture Eminem's cartooniness, Steve Vai's skill, Matiias Eklundh's creativity, and Chris Angel's
showmanship and you got Robb W.A de Bretan. I wish someone would hook this guy up with funds because it would be the best thing ever, but I'm sure someone will sooner or later. because they would have to be stupid not to.

Re: The Acclaimed Music Forum Top 100(+) Songs

Does anyone know where I can get Robb W.A de Bretan's music?.
Has anyone seen or heard Robb W.A de Bretan. He is the coolest guitar player ever. There is no instrumental guitar player that has music that I could really listen to and feel. This guy does it like anime music, deceivingly simple. I would really like to find or know more about him,
I found his albums only on justmusicstore.com
But tell me more sites

recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The Acclaimed Music Forum Top 100(+) Songs

Time for another run with multi songs lists?

I plan a top 1000 in a few weeks! I double my earlier list from a few years ago...that is before this thread was started so it doesn't exist, I believe...I hope... :)

Anyone as crazy as me? 100-1000 songs etc? I can take on the burden of compiling the top 100 songs etc from every list...to one great big MOTHER list...then we release it so it doesn't infer with the 90s list...

Fredrik
