Prince

It's good to see Prince get some major love! I also am happy to see Strangeways, Here We Come place well.

Re: Rockdelux best albums and songs of 1987 and 1988

Thousand thanks, Honorio!!!

Who's That Girl...

look at that little usually ignored track rounding out the top 50!

Honorio, nothing is impossible- track down those 1986 lists- I have the faith!

Thanks for posting.

Who's That Girl

It is cool to see it make the list, but I like "Causin' a Commotion" AND "The Look of Love" better!

Commotion...

the only notable list Iv'e seen it part of is Q's Ultimate Music Collection (and, in that new Songs & Artists book). Who's That Girl now has a few year-end lists to its credit, plus the Q citation. Both often are overlooked- notice their lack of inclusion on Immaculate Collection, which likely doesn't help their case, either.

Re: Rockdelux best albums and songs of 1987 and 1988

i think "whos that girl" and "causing a commotion" arent usually cited because most people recognize them for the rehashes of "la isla bonita" and "into the groove," respectively, that they are. was there anything good on that soundtrack?

Re: Rockdelux best albums and songs of 1987 and 1988

Nice to see That Petrol Emotion, Tom Verlaine’s Flashlight (his best solo album, I reckon), Pere Ubu and Julian Cope all receiving just acknowledgments. The biggest oversight off the top of my head - where is the Go-Betweens’ 16 Lovers Lane on the 88 list? The Fall’s Frenz Experiment could have found a home on there as well, particularly since they found room for that fairly lame Joe Strummer album.

WTG and La Isla...

both opbviously are Spanish-sounding/influenced. Both are good dotties, though Bonita probably has endured more. Commotion is fun, but isn't nearly as strong as Into the Groove.

Look of Love is a nice ballad from the soundtrack; the other Madonna track on the soundtrack- Can't Stop- is fun, but completely throwaway.
