This song has no business being in the top 100. The quality of the songs it kept out of the final (Obstacle 1, I am Trying to Break Your Heart, The Way We Get By, Fight Test, and The Golden Age) makes its placement easy. #100. (Evan)
It's sad that Missy's two entries here will likely fare poorly. She has much, much better than this, but I'll be damned if she doesn't capture the creativity, fun-loving spirit and attitude of hip hop better than anyone else in the 2000s. (Moonbeam)
Obstacle 1 has grew on me so much now, sorry guys. (Depeche Mode)

Wow I accidently copy-pasted the whole list to this text box. Luckily there was space enough to show only #100-#75. Hopefully not too many saw the list (it was there only about minute).
Editing this because the list has suddenly shrunk!
Petri, when I saw the list, I noticed that most of my loves/hates were missing.
I'm glad Missy Eliot finished last, and I'm hoping her otehr song will be gone before the bottom 10 is over.
The Missy hate on this forum saddens me.
Petri, was I the highest vote for "Work It" at 29?
From now on if the song doesn't have any top 10 voters I put the highest voter of the song to the fans section.
I continue the show tomorrow.

I must confess I was suspicious when I heard Portishead will finally release new material after 11 years. Consternation was ready when I first time listened to the first new song on YouTube. What I heard meant comeback of the decade and top 3 song of their career. The struggle between brutality (beating drums and machines) and vulnarability (almost wailing voice of Beth Gibbons) is pure terror. Somekind of soothing outro part remind me of Vangelis and Blade Runner (Petri)
I can appreciate the industrial eerie atmosphere of this track, but I wish those synths that come in at the end were more prominent throughout. (Moonbeam)

Another putrid effort that assured that Coldplay would yet again fool the unwashed masses into believing they actually meant something. (Moonbeam)
I don't particularly like Coldplay but I like a lot "Viva la Vida" and maybe because of the same reason, this grandiose sound that seem justified to me for this dethroned king story. (Honorio)

Why all the hate for Viva La Vida? It's the only Coldplay song I genuinely think is great.
If I Don't Feel Like Dancin qualified, I pray Take Your Mama did.
L.E.S. Artistes and Summertime Clothes in the bottom five? Totally undeserved! I'm concerned My Girls won't do well now.

Should have been Stillness is the Move. Is this even the best song on the album? I'm not sure, but I didn't like the album much either. #90. (Evan)

As good as Rock Your Body or Sexyback might be, Justin Timberlake is incredible when he slows down the dancefloor. Cry Me A River, What Goes Around… Comes Around and My Love are the best proofs (the only objection would be Lovestoned, making the sequence My Love/Lovestoned/I think she knows/Whats goes Around... the crowning achievement of Justin, and one of the most awesome moment of the decade) (Nassim)
In addition to sexy, Justin Timberlake also attempted to bring the theremin back, which is just as commendable. #39. (Evan)

At first, this was the low point of an utterly fantastic album for me, but subsequent listens quickly changed my mind. I sing this on the top of my lungs whenever it comes on. "He throws them all uhh-WAYYYYY! Hey-Heyyyy! Hey-Heyyyy! Hey-Heyyy!" (Moonbeam)
What a comeback! Morrissey released a great album in 2004 after a seven year hiatus that it deserved a better fate in our poll. Especially for the second single, a strong power pop piece with the story of a Latin gangster told (you know, we're talking about Morrissey) in a street-wise but romantic way. "He stole from the rich and the poor (...) he stole all hearts away". (Honorio)

I love how Robyn exploses any boundaries of what a dance-pop singer is supposed to do through this, Be Mine, Konichiwa Bitches, Who's That Girl or Dancing on My Own. She exposes her heart and guts in her music, never forgets to make people dance and does it with wit and sincerity, she really is in her own league in the european dance scene (yes Moonbeam, let's say Annie is there too if you want) (#19) (Nassim)

Tough time for r&b !
I second Evan and Moonbeam comments about New Slang. Nice enough but nothing exceptional.
Orgasm moments (songs sorted as I listed them)
"With Every Heartbeat" 2:44 (when it goes from one song to another)
"Mercy" 0:00 (the intro)
"Machine Gun" 0:00 (intro again)
"Keep the Streets Empty for Me" 2:42 (the new beat)
"Banquet" 1:16 (the mini-break)
"My Love" 0:04 (single version) (the synth)
"Summertime Clothes" 1:14 (the refrain)
"Get Ur Freak On" 0:05 (the tumbi melody)
"Daniel" 1:05 (beats added to the second verse)
"Blind" 3:55 (the beats come back after the break)
"1 Thing" 0:00 (intro)
"Empire State of Mind" 0:54 (Alicia Keys' refrain)
"Beautiful Day" 0:56 (the refrain)
"L.E.S. Artistes" 0:42 (refrain again)
"New Slang" 0:06 (ooh oooh ooooh...)
"Viva La Vida" 0:00 (the intro)
"Work It" 0:39 "If you got a big" and the elephant (just kidding, I'm kinda shrinked from here on...)
"The Rat" 0:51 (vocals kick in)
"Crazy in Love" 0:00 (the intro of course, what else?)
"First of the Gang to Die" (sorry, I've just never been in love with this song...)
"Zero" (too synthetic, yes in this case it bothers me)
"Gold Digger" (stealing doesn't turn me on)
"I Don't Feel Like Dancin' (exactly...)
"Ignition" (This song was designed to give me orgasm, which is why it doesn't.)
"What You Know" (worst vocals ever...I'm out!)

Nice show again, Petri! Just a couple of things: Crystalised was my #72, not #93 (I had Halfway Home at #93). Also, I wrote comments for a few songs - it was only for my top 3, so it's actually no big deal if you don't include the comments for my #1 and #2 (Crazy in Love was my #3).

This is my first exposure to Of Montreal other than the collaboration with Janelle Monáe. That relentless chug and modular synth freakout at the end are pretty outstanding! Everything post-Violator is just above average in my book. A couple of stand-out songs but not engaging through a whole album. I mostly prefer their moodier songs (but Exciter lacked...excitement). Songs with distorted vocals a la "Barrel of a Gun" are awful.
Now, let's move over to other topics. Well, it's bedtime for me...

This is arguably the most moving song I have ever heard. It plays like a perfect slice of ephemeral pop, but beneath the surface is real heartache that makes Annie the absolute master of the happy/sad dichotomy. What better homage could she pay to her late boyfriend/collaborator who died of a heart ailment than to repeatedly offer "Feel my heartbeat"? The time she spent with him she remembers fondly, but it is clearly in the past ("there was a time", "I won't forget the greatest times I had when I was dancing with you".) Music rarely hits me so hard, and it was this triumph that helped me to overcome my own dark times in 2004 and 2005. (Moonbeam)

One of those forgotten songs from my pre-teen years that I'm more than happy to rediscover. #54. (Evan)
This song probably matters more to me than any other of the 2000s. I had grown disinterested by most contemporary music throughout the doldrums of the 90s, only seeking out releases by established favorites with only a few exceptions. But when I heard that chugging synth and the hypnotic "la la la" chant, my whole being became transfixed. When I saw the end of the video credits list the artist as Kylie Minogue, who I only knew from "Locomotion", I was shocked. At once, my interest in exploring new music was firmly reestablished, and I discovered this website soon thereafter. This is one of the greatest pop songs of all time as Kylie effortlessly plays the half dream/half nightmare of romantic obsession to a futuristic synthesized brave new world. (Moonbeam)
I can't get Kylie out of my head. I've always liked Kylie Minogue but the Stock, Aitken & Waterman awful 80s sound was a letdown. That's why I was so glad to see her succeeding widely and gaining critic credibility doing anything but good mainstream music with "Some Kind of Bliss", "Spinning Around” and exploding with this "Can't Get You out of My Head". I have certainly expected My Girls to end up higher, I can see where the criticism for the it's album comes from, but I can't see a way to dislike this song.

Petri, "Hope There's Someone" is my #7 song and I didn't show up in the biggest fans section. (I'm not too concerned about the biggest fans part, I just want to make sure my vote was counted)
Maybe we should think about moving to a forum which has logins and moderation options?
Right now if AM was just a little more high profile a site it'd be vulnerable to all kinds of spam attacks, posting under other peoples' handles, and things like that. At the Mubi forum there's somebody who keeps coming back and posting all these racist pornographic pictures, and if we can't delete things like that without deleting a whole lot of legitimate posts, that's a problem.
One person's stupid post shouldn't make us lose confidence in a community that can cope perfectly well without censorship.
Let's talk about music instead. Sufjan Stevens... I'm pleasantly surprised that all 3 of his songs are in the top 30. I thought split-voting might have had a negative effect.
I don't think vote splitting is much of a problem in this type of poll where you have to vote for every song anyway.
Why not just make a new thread for the top 30?
Such Great Heights this high is a surprise. I thought it would place bottom 20.
As far as songs with Antony vocals, I'm shocked Hope There's Someone beat out Blind by 40 places. Blind is just an amazing track, a 21st century "Blue Monday."
Oh yeah, I forgot I submitted that comment. I still stand by it though.

I thought I didn't really live TV on the Radio after Return to Cookie Mountain failed to impress on first listen. I must have been sleeping when this came on, though, because when I heard it again, my blood boiled with the lust-fueled furor described. Holy cow. (Moonbeam)

This song became popular while my dad was in the hospital shortly before he died. Hearing it every night offered some strange catharsis that I can't quite explain, but there's really no need to add anything to the majesty of this song. (Moonbeam)

As far as I can tell the voters in this poll were fairly consistent with their love of the songs in the top Arcade Fire and Sufjan Stevens albums as they were for the albums in their entirety.
Even an older fellow like myself can appreciate these two (six) masterpieces of the naughties.
Yeah, sure, it's simply a photographic effect but reproducing the aspect of enucleated eyes.
That post...
In English = disgusting
In Spanish = repugnante
In French = dégoûtant
In Swedish = äckligt
Pretty fucking horrible in any language.
those pictures were really shocking, dealing with very serious things, that's not what you want to see in apeaceful and friendly site like AM, no I'm not at all with him ointhis
his fake porn pictures were fun though haha
This has gotten off track to the point where I think we definitely need a new thread for the top 20.
Great placement for Wolf Like Me, the rare track that is still getting better with every listen despite it being one of my most-played songs. The intensity of the second chorus and the perfect transitions in and out of the slow middle part are what make the song for me.
Hello everyone.
Yesterday night when I came home (late from the music quiz - we were second) and checked the forum the results thread was locked. I didn't have interest to start a new thread then so I went to bed.
Now looks like it has been a lot of conversation about censorship and stuff here in the forum today.
First of all I'm very glad that Dan M abrogated his decision not to participate to discussion here in the forum anymore.
Then (when I saw that thread was locked and discussion didn't deal with the results that much anymore but nj's picture) I think I should open a new thread for results (although it's not locked anymore).
So the new results thread will start shortly.
Edit: Part 2
