Week 28 sees us move to bracket W4, which features songs that won each of their first 4 matches. The winners will move on to bracket W5 (and a guaranteed spot in the top 3), while the losers will move to the loser's bracket.
Please listen to the songs before making your choice, and provide comments (however brief) to form the basis of your pick.
The deadline for Week 28 is 11:59 PM, December 26th AM time.
You can read the descriptions of why these songs were nominated in the rules thread.
The Verlaines - "Death and the Maiden" wins over Lal Waterson & Oliver Knight - "Flight of the Pelican"
Close call, but either of the songs in 4.2 would beat The Verlaines.
Match W4.2:
Curtis Mayfield- "Right on for the Darkness" wins over Nina Simone - "Sinner Man"
Right on for the Darkness is quite the find.
Lal Waterson & Oliver Knight - "Flight of the Pelican"
The Verlaines - "Death and the Maiden"
I've liked 'Flight of the Pelican' since I first listened to it because of this game. 'Death and the Maiden' on the other hand is kind of fun, but not my cup of tea.
Match W4.2:
Nina Simone - "Sinner Man"
Curtis Mayfield- "Right on for the Darkness"
My own pick versus an artist that I like a lot. Well, 'Sinner Man' is one of my favorites songs, so Mayfield has bad luck, because I really like 'Right on the the Darkness'.
Match W4.1: Lal Waterson & Oliver Knight - "Flight of the Pelican"
The Verlaines - "Death and the Maiden"
Match W4.2:
Nina Simone - "Sinner Man" Curtis Mayfield- "Right on for the Darkness"
We're really down to the very best now; this no longer looks like an "unacclaimed songs" collection but rather four very familiar and acclaimed songs. Of course they aren't, but it really feels like they are. Maybe an indication of the success of this game. In any case, in two very, very close calls the win goes to Lal & Oliver and Curtis.
The Verlaines - "Death and the Maiden" - winner of the battle of the good
Match W4.2:
Curtis Mayfield- "Right on for the Darkness" - winner of the battle of the great
I honestly thought Nina and Curtis might duke it out in the final ... maybe that can still happen? Either way, it pains me to vote against Sinnerman, but Right on for the Darkness is my #2 all-time song. So there you go.
"Death and the Maiden" is easily one of my new favorites I picked up from the tournament. Easy choice, but the other song is awesome, too.
"Right on for the Darkness" wins a close one. I can honestly see why both songs made it this far. do I really have to choose? oh, well, it looks like both will be top 3 anyway.
I've battled over these choices all week. I don't think I'm going to have any clarity about it no matter what I choose, so I'm going to forgo voting this week. Too tough!
