As most of you know I won't be running Moderate 3, Brad will, and I think he's probably going to wait until Foreign World Cup is over. But like I no longer do, most of you don't have time to listen to eight albums a week to participate.
So let's use this thread to get people a head start. What albums do you know for sure you're going to nominate?
My for-sure nominations are:
The Watersons - Bright Phoebus
The Slits - Cut
Laura Nyro - New York Tendaberry
Bert Jansch - Bert Jansch
Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years
Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part One
Also, if albums are eligible without being even bubbling under, Anais Mitchell - Hadestown
What are other peoples' for-sure nominations?
Which albums are eligible? How many does each person nominate? I plan on participating in the next moderate.
Albums rated 501-3000 or bubbling under on AM, that were not in the first two Moderates except the first round of the first one. (There will be a list of ineligibles at the time).
I don't know if Brad is going to do nominations the same way I did, but if so it's like this:
You send him an ordered list of nominations. First he takes all the first choices, then all the second choices, etc, until he fills all 128 spots. Only 25 are eligible from 501-1000, 50 from 501-1500, 75 from 501-2000, and 100 form 501-2500.
Yes, thanks BillAdama...I'm planning on keeping the same nomination structure as the previous MA's, with the additional point that each participant can have one "not even bubbling under" unacclaimed album in the contest.
This will finally allow me to nominate my favorite album of all time, The Verlaines' "Bird Dog".
I'm planning on kicking the game off in early February, with the nomination process beginning shortly after the 2011 album update.
Also, still up for consideration is the artist limitation... do we include all artists or exclude the top xxx number?
Fuck, so many I want to nominate. Anyone nominating Exuma and Ces Gens-Là? Also, I've been championing The Tallest Man on Earth enough, so I'll forgo nominating him.. Anyway, I'll probably go with this top 10:
Jackson C. Frank - Jackson C. Frank
Fela Kuti - Zombie
John Fahey - Fare Forward Voyagers (Soldier's Choice)
The Antlers - Hospice
Jorge Ben - A Tábua de Esmeralda
James Carr - You Got My Mind Messed Up
Judee Sill - Heart Food
Charlie Parker - Jazz at Massey Hall (despite being a compilation, really)
Little Feat - Dixie Chicken
Thelonious Monk - Monk's Music
And as non-bubbling under:
Betty Davis - Nasty Gal
Are those all eligible? Also, I'm appalled Dillard & Clark's The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark isn't even bubbling under.
If Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport does not reach the final round of the 00s, it will be one of my top picks.
And since I like picking albums that stand no chances, I will add Animal Collective - Feels.
I will also pick Hot Chip - The Warning most likely, though I'm surprised I did not pick it on the previous poll. (or did I ?)
Also very likely :
Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R
Spank Rock - Yoyoyoyoyo
And if non bubbling albums are allowed :
IAM - L'école du Micro d'Argent, best French album ever for me.
Led Zeppelin's "Houses of the Holy" will be my first pick. I'm not sure about anything else yet, but that I know.
Ok. I'll probably nominate Seamonsters by The Wedding Present and Emergency & I by The Dismemberment Plan, but beyond that I'm not sure.
I don't know how many of these have been nominated before, but my ultimate picks are among them.
Galaxie 500 - On Fire
Rickie Lee Jones - Pirates
Broadcast - Haha Sound
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
Gillian Welch - Time (The Revelator)
Laurie Anderson - Big Science
Marisa Monte - Verde Anil Cor de Rosa e Carvão
Marissa Nadler - Songs III
Me'Shell NdegéOcello - Bitter
Nico - Desertshore
Richard Hell & The Voidoids - Blank Generation
Roy Harper - Stormcock
Secos e Molhados - Secos e Molhados I
Scott Walker - Scott 3
Sleater-Kinney - Call the Doctor
The Smashing Pumpkins - Adore
Spoon - Girls Can Tell
Suzanne Vega - Suzanne Vega
Todd Rudngren - A Wizard, A True Star
The United States of America - The United States of America
Van Dyke Parks - Song Cycle
Van Morrison - His Band and the Street Choir
Yo La Tengo - Painful
Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth
Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and Scott 3 have appeared before. I believe Call The Doctor was in the first one but I don't remember whether it lost in the first round, so it may be eligible.
Henrik said this year's update would only be a songs update.
I will be nominating Blumfeld - L'etat et moi.
It's a wonderful German band from the "Hamburger Schule" - a German band singing in German is a rare delight.
Are we going to run this against Foreign World Cup?
I think a lot of the same people are interested in both, and maybe we should at least wait until the first round is over and all those songs have been heard once.
Not sure about these, but I consider them probable (if they are eligible):
Todd Rundgren / A Wizard, A True Star
Yes / Fragile
Rolling Stones / Tattoo You
Foo Fighters / The Colour and the Shape
Chicago / Chicago Transit Authority
Todd Rundgren / Todd
Allman Brothers / Brothers and Sisters
Cat Stevens / Teaser and the Firecat
Blink 182 / Enema of State
Santana / Supernatural
Todd Rundgren / Runt: The Ballad of Todd Rundgren
Joe Jackson / Body and Soul
Todd Rundgren / Hermit of Mink Hollow
Doobie Brothers / The Captain and Me
Two of those were in BMA1 but lost in the first round, I believe all of those are eligible.
Though, there is a rule that the same person can't nominate two albums by the same artist, so you'll have to pick one Todd Rundgren album.
It looks like the first round of foreign world cup is going to take 32 weeks, but it's only eight songs a week, so no need to wait for that to get this going.
Just please leave a big gap of time between bracket reveal and voting.
