Unacclaimed Week 24

It's Week 24, and that's exactly how many songs remain in the game. We've weeded out 40 great songs and the cream has risen to the top.

We move to bracket L4. The winners will move on to bracket L5, while the losers are sadly out!

Please listen to the songs before making your choice, and provide comments (however brief) to form the basis of your pick.

The deadline for Week 24 is 11:59 PM, November 13th AM time.

You can read the descriptions of why these songs were nominated in the rules thread.

Re: Unacclaimed Week 24

Match L4.1:
The Stones Roses - "Elephant Stone"

Still not sure whether this should be eligible, but it's fantastic.

Match L4.2:
Yann Tiersen - "La valse de Monstres"

Not my favorite Tiersen, but great nonetheless.

Match L4.3:
Faces - "Ooh La La"

Like I said, best song left.

Match L4.4:
Visage - "Fade to Grey"

One of my favorite discoveries.

Match L4.5:
Luke Kelly - "Scorn Not His Simplicity"

But this is my favorite discovery.

Match L4.6:
Georges Brassens - "La Marine"

Brassens is fantastic as always.

Match L4.7:
The Who - "Eminence Front"

I didn't know this was still in the running somewhere. Go Eminence Front!

Match L4.8:
Stereolab - "French Disko"

Closest matchup of the week.

Re: Unacclaimed Week 24

Match L4.1:
The Stones Roses
Default choice

Match L4.2:
Yann Tiersen
The two deserve to go far.

Match L4.3:
Faces
Default choice

Match L4.4:
The Decemberists
The two deserve to go far.

Match L4.6:
Prince
Two of my 6 favorite songs of the game. The hardest choice of the week.

Match L4.7:
Serge Gainsbourg
The only easy choice of the week.

Match L4.8:
The Bellrays

Re: Unacclaimed Week 24

Match L4.1:
Liz Phair - "What Makes You a Slave" beats The Stone Roses - "Elephant Stone" - As great as the drums are on the Stone Roses track, I love that rough Girly Sounds feel on Phair's track.

Match L4.2:
Siouxsie and the Banshees - "Dazzle" beats Yann Tiersen - "La valse de Monstres" - Tight contest, but the Banshee's orchestral swell grabs me slightly more.

Match L4.3:
Faces - "Ooh La La" beats Utopia - "The Ikon" - Another tight contest. Rootsy concision wins out today, but I'm not hating on Rundgren's proggy excess.

Match L4.4:
The Decemberists - "Record Year" beats Visage - "Fade to Grey" - Meloy and co. really arrange their songs well.

Re: Unacclaimed Week 24

Match L4.5:
Ten Years After - "I'd Love to Change the World" beats Luke Kelly - "Scorn Not His Simplicity" - "Scorn Not..." is a pretty song, but Kelly's delivery on it is wearing thin after a number of listens.

Match L4.6:

Georges Brassens - "La Marine" beats Prince - "Crystal Ball" - Not a big fan of either, but Brassens' delivery is enjoyable.

Match L4.7:

Serge Gainsbourg - "Cannabis" beats The Who - "Eminence Front" - Love that dirty sound from Gainsbourg

Match L4.8:

Stereolab - "French Disko" beats The Bellrays - "Footprints on the Water" - Possibly my two favorites of the week, but the exquisite "French Disko" wins handily.

Re: Unacclaimed Week 24

Voting is extended for a week.

Re: Unacclaimed Week 24

I really want to vote in this thing but I just have so much less free time than I used to. Not just because of the new job but also because the act of sitting down all day makes me want to spend less time sitting at home.
