What I love about this game is that a lot of people make a lot of new discoveries and a lot of overlooked gems are found. The problem is that it's hard to get people to vote for albums they just discovered over albums they've liked for years, so all the ones people already like about tend to do the best. There's really no way to prevent that except to sculpt the eligibility around keeping the already-favorites out, but that's hard to do without being overly complicated about it. If this game runs a third time maybe some better heuristic can be found.
1. Serge Gainsbourg - Initials B.B.
2. Julee Cruise - Floating Into The Night
3. Steely Dan - Countdown To Ecstasy
4. Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One
5. Wilco - Summerteeth
6. Pere Ubu - Dub Housing
7. Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
8. The Heartbreakers - L.A.M.F.
Julee Cruise's album is one of the album I disliked the most (and it might only be thanks to George Harrison that it's not THE worst in my book). And it already has eliminated 2 of my picks...
Division 1:
Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One vs
WINNER Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
I found pleasure to listen this album years after years.
Division 2:
Steely Dan - Countdown To Ecstasy vs
WINNER Serge Gainsbourg - Initials B.B.
Of course, but Steely Dan is great.
Division 3:
WINNER Wilco - Summereeth vs
Pere Ubu - Dub Housing
This week is Wilco my winner but Pere Ubu is great too.
Division 1: Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One
Division 2: Serge Gainsbourg - Initials B.B.
Division 3: Wilco - Summereeth
Division 4: The Heartbreakers - L.A.M.F.
Division 1: Yo La Tengo - I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One
Division 2: Steely Dan - Countdown To Ecstasy
Division 3: Wilco - Summerteeth
Division 4: The Heartbreakers - L.A.M.F.
Yo La Tengo is a dark horse to win the tournament at this point. Nothing has really come close so far, and it should be able to beat the Morricone/Fleetwood Mac winner.
The Heartbreakers album making it this far is a huge surprise (especially since Faust should have knocked them out in round 1--and almost did).
