AM Survivor: Round 4, Week 9 (The Final Week!!!!!!)
This week’s loss will make doves cry:
3. Prince (10 points)
It was very close all week long, with Prince getting two late votes to push ahead of the boss (who finished with 8 points).
Well, it is finally here. We are down to two artists: Bruce Springsteen, “The Boss”, the man who drives a pink Cadillac down thunder road, and the Rolling Stones, the band that avoided the massacre of forum favorites in round 1 with ease, and now contend at the title they wish they came within a week of the finals last time, finishing third to The Beatles and Bob Dylan (neither made it out of round 1 this time).
It’s been 10 months since the top 101 came to this “island”, but now only two are left. The time has come, AM, to crown a champion.
Please see the Rules Thread for the complete set of rules.
Re: AM Survivor: Round 4, Week 9 (The Final Week!!!!!!)
-1 Bruce Springsteen
The Stones are the sole survivors (cheap pun) from my top 10 artist of all time. The Boos is good, but this isn't really close for me.
Also of note, I started this poll after my first week of school this year, and now it's ending after my last. That's one long poll!

Re: AM Survivor: Round 4, Week 9 (The Final Week!!!!!!)
-1 The Rolling Stones
However, it's very close for me. Summing up my top 10s might even give the edge to the Stones, but overall I'm sticking to Bruce.

5. Darkness on the Edge of Town
6. Let It Bleed

Re: AM Survivor: Round 4, Week 9 (The Final Week!!!!!!)
I think the most interesting part about this poll is looking at the old top 10:
10. R.E.M. (10)
9. The Who (57)
8. The Beach Boys (8)
7. Neil Young(7)
6. The Velvet Underground (64)
5. Radiohead (62)
4. David Bowie (70)
3. The Rolling Stones (1 or 2)
2. Bob Dylan (85)
1. The Beatles (72)
Interesting how REM, The Beach Boys and Neil Young all remained the same.
Re: AM Survivor: Round 4, Week 9 (The Final Week!!!!!!)
Is there a difference between the artists that were voted out early this time and those that were not? Do the eliminated artists have bigger groups of non-fans? Did the early elimination of favorites make the game more or less interesting?
Re: AM Survivor: Round 4, Week 9 (The Final Week!!!!!!)
Funny that I unintetionally saw this thread exactly while I was begining to listen to Nebraska. This time I'm all for Bruce!
-1: Rolling Stones
I think it made for a much interesting game the fact that the usual favorites were eliminated before, specially The Beatles (as much as I like them, I must agree it was better), Dylan and Radiohead. The best thing was seeing which are the artists that rise the least grade of rejection, like Stevie, Prince, Neil Young, Sly & the Family Stone, R.E.M., etc.
It was awesome to the Blur in this group for so much time, taking them to a much better position this time than in the last game, as long as in comparison to their AM rank (and they finished as the highest '90s band in the game!).
Other great things were the high placement of Arcade Fire and Wilco, given that they were classified in that "recap" round.
And, of course, there was that incredible persistence of Led Zeppelin during more that 15 weeks of imminently elimination (with me almost always trying to help eliminating them, hahah)!!!

In parenthese, where they finished this time.
It would be interesting to see if the low results for The Beatles, Dylan, Bowie, VU, The Who and Radiohead are repeated next year. I doubt it.
If the low ratings are repeated, I think those ratings would have more meaning than merely being reflective of a strategy effectively deployed to keep things interesting by eliminating some favorites early in the competition.
