SONIC YOUTH. At last, an artist I can unabashedly put ahead of Depeche Mode.

#2 Run DMC - Tough choice. Despite Run DMC moving down in my estimation in recent years, and enjoying quite a bit of Duran Duran's output, I can't see Duran Duran as being the better artist.
