Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.5

Votes:

13th Floor Elevators
Mercury Rev
Tim Buckley
Stereolab

There's nothing I dislike this week, but all four choices are easy. Starsailor, again, is one of my favorite albums all time.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.5

Trying to keep up while on vacation with spotty Internet.

Division 1:

13th Floor Elevators - Psychadelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators
vs
Ennio Morricone - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Tough call, but the 13th Floor Elevators are still a new discovery to me, and thus more exciting.

Division 3:

Tim Buckley - Starsailor vs
Michelle Shocked - Short Sharp Shocked

Division 4:

Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup vs
The Rakes - Capture/Release

These other two are easier choices.

Division 2: Mercury Rev - Yerself Is Steam

13th Floor Elevators
Mercury Rev
Tim Buckley
Stereolab

Wow, four really cool albums in the same week.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.5

I want to remind everyone of the Roxy Music - Country Life/Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West tiebreaker which is still in the sudden death phase.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.5

Division 1: Ennio Morricone - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Roxy Music wins
(I remember being really embarrassed buying it,with that cover).

Division 1: 13th Floor Elevators - Psychadelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators
Division 2: Mercury Rev - Yerself Is Steam
Division 3: Tim Buckley - Starsailor vs
Division 4: Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.5

i'm supposedly too cool to post in BillAdarma threads anymore... but as inflicted and hypocritical as i am...

1. tough one: the coin did decide again: Fourth Drawer it is, while the rest does the autopilot twist:

2. 13th Floors
3. Mercury Rev
4. Starsailor

and ummm

5. The Rakes

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.5

I was just teasing nj. That's what that thread was for.

The Associates/Julie Cruise tiebreaker actually has different rules than the other tiebreaker. I'm trying out a new system for tiebreakers that aren't resolved within one week designed so the people who care the most carry the most weight. Basically everybody has ten points for the entire tournament, and you can give any number of those points to an album, and if that album wins you lose them, if it loses you get them back.

well played, Darmy, well played.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.5

Only 2 votes for me :
Ennio Morricone - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Rakes - Capture/Release
2 albums on my all-time top 200, but while Stereolab is more witty and challenging, I still enjoy Capture/Release more.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.5

Experimental tiebreaker result:

Julee Cruise 10 (Henrik 7, Brad 3)
The Associates 0

I'm thinking of adding a rule that says the maximum number of points you can be penalized for your vote is the number of points the losing album received +1. So, if your album won 8-2, the most you could lose is 3 points. Because, it seems unfair to Henrik to almost completely lose his tiebreak power when the other album didn't get a vote.

So, unless anyone has a problem with it, I'm only charging Henrik and Brad 1 point for this tiebreak.

Normal tiebreaker result:

Roxy Music - Country Life 4 def
Modest Mouse - The Lonesome Crowded West 3

Division 1:

13th Floor Elevators - Psychadelic Sounds Of The 13th Floor Elevators 5 TIED WITH
Ennio Morricone - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly 5

Division 2:

Mercury Rev - Yerself Is Steam 6 def
The Animals - The Animals 1

Division 3:

Tim Buckley - Starsailor 6 def
Michelle Shocked - Short Sharp Shocked 1

Division 4:

Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup 6 def
The Rakes - Capture/Release 3
