Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

Vote: Brian Eno
I used to like this one a lot more than I do now, but it's still fun and quirky.

Vote: Pere Ubu
I like Misplaced Childhood a lot, but Dub Housing is top 100 AT for me.

Vote: The Associates
It's hard for me to judge Floating Into The Night as an album because I'm so used to hearing all the songs in Twin Peaks.

Need to re-listen Tubeway Army.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

Only one I can vote on this week:

Division 2:
Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)

Man Who Sold the World is a pretty bad album after the title track. Taking Tiger Mountain is ok, not as good as Here Come the Warm Jets but I do prefer it to the next step in the Eno catalog, you know the one that makes him one of the most acclaimed artists of all time.

Isn't that all for the good? Also, you are probably aware of this already, but Floating into the Night came first.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

Division 1:
Winner - Tubeway Army - Replicas vs
Queen - Sheer Heart Attack
A great discovery, I really appreciate Tubeway Army.

Division 2:
WINNER - David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World vs
Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain
A so difficult choice, I adore these two albums (first and second place of the week) but Bowie is my "chouchou".

Division 3:
WINNER - Pere Ubu - Dub Housing vs
Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Easy here.

My vote is for The Associates, not against Julee Cruise. I know Floating Into The Night came first, but I heard these songs over and over in the context of the show, so it's hard for me to separate them from it.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

I'll break the tie:

Cassandra Wilson - New Moon Daughter vs
Benga - Diary Of An Afro Warrior

I'm not a huge fan of either album, but New Moon Daughter really doesn't hold my attention at all.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

Division 1: Queen - Sheer Heart Attack
Division 2: David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World (completely disagree with the previous comment that this is a "bad" album outside of the title track)
Division 3: Pere Ubu - Dub Housing
Division 4: Julee Cruise - Floating Into The Night

Thanks!

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

Vote: Queen

I'll make it official, Benga wins. The other tiebreaker is still open.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

Division 1:

Tubeway Army - Replicas vs
Queen - Sheer Heart Attack

Division 2:

David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World vs
Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

Division 2:

Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)

I would not call The Man Who Sold the World bad but Eno's album seems more consistant. And while everybody knows Nirvana's version of Bowie song, I prefer Bauhaus cover of Third Uncle (not that it made an impact on my vote though).

Division 4:

The Associates - Fourth Drawer Down

I don't like the Julee Cruise album at all, and not just because it eliminated one of my picks on the previous round.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

Division 1: Queen - Sheer Heart Attack
Division 2: David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World
Division 3: Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Division 4: The Associates - Fourth Drawer Down

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

When I realized I hadn't helped out Queen yet, I scambled to find the album on youtube, do I can now place my vote for:

Sheer Heart Attack

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

Division 1:
Tubeway Army - Replicas

Division 2:
Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)

Two huge songs on each album; "Fat Lady of Limbourg" and "The Man Who Sold The World". Other than that I'm not really into any of these albums, but I have different feelings about them. While "Taking Tiger Mountain" has growing potential, "The Man Who Sold The World" lacks the melodies to be enjoyed by others than hardcore Bowie fans.

Division 3:
Marillion - Misplaced Childhood

Division 4:
Julee Cruise - Floating Into The Night

I don't understand why this album doesn't appeal to more people. Everyone (well, except Nassim probably) loves the music from Twin Peaks and this albums is the consummate Badalamenti/Lynch/Cruise experience. Should it not be up there with other mood-records such as "Astral Weeks" or "Loveless"?

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 2.3

There are three ties and one with a large margin, with twelve minutes left, so no reason not to close it now.

Benga beats Cassandra Wilson 5-4

The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour vs
Laika - Sounds Of The Satellites

Still tied

We're going to try an experimental tiebreaker now, to try to favor the album that more people feel more strongly about.

Two albums, if still tied after a one week extension, will have a re-vote. Only, in this re-vote, everybody has ten points to use for the entire tournament. You can use any number of those points. If you vote, and your pick wins, you lose your points, and if your pick loses, you get your points back.

Please send any experimental tiebreaker votes to AMModeratePoll@gmail.com (So people who vote earlier aren't at a disadvantage) (And yes, I will decide whether to vote before checking other peoples' votes).

This week's matches:

Tubeway Army - Replicas 4 TIED WITH
Queen - Sheer Heart Attack 4

Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain 6 def
David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World 3

Pere Ubu - Dub Housing 3 TIED WITH
Marillion - Misplaced Childhood 3

The Associates - Fourth Drawer Down 3 TIED WITH
Julee Cruise - Floating Into The Night 3

Those three will be open one more week. If they are still tied, experimental tiebreaker.
