Re: Personal EOY Lists

My I-don't-get-it of the year is The Black Keys, I just.. don't get it. To me it sounds like the same thing literally a hundred other bands do, and they don't stand out at all. What am I missing here?

Mine is Beach House.

For me the Black Keys have retro 'guitar rock' appeal. I often see them grouped together with the White Stripes.

Re: Personal EOY Lists

Another album that's almost certain to get on my list once I listen to it more: Mavis Staples - Creep Along Moses.

One of the factors in the factor analysis I did in the EOY spreadsheet was:

1. Joanna Newsom
2. Mavis Staples
3. Sufjan Stevens

I like Joanna Newsom and Sufjan Stevens a lot, so I went to hear Mavis Staples'. I liked it a lot, but it sounds nothing like the other two. It's a gospel album that has an old school soul feel.
