Honorio, a big thank you for providing these Spotify links with every poll. They really make my life easier! However, here's another and definitely superior version of Bernard Herrmann's "Psycho: Prelude". Joel McNeely - Psycho: Prelude
Honorio, if there's a delay of the presentation of the decade polls, would it be OK to move forward the deadline for the 1960s lists? I haven't listened to all the albums yet and I don't know if I will have any spare time during Christmas.
Practically every album I hadn't heard yet has blown me away. Ces Gens-Là, Complete & Unbelievable, Sin & Soul, they're all in or close to my top 250 of all-time now. Love it.
Hey, was just wondering what the scoring system would be. Mainly if I haven't heard an album would it be punished in the rankings? I wouldn't want my ignorance to have such an effect.
Sorry for not replying earlier, the 31st of January is OK for me. The rest of January I will be busy posting the results of the 1950s poll.
About the scoring system is the same as the previous polls but I cannot explain it properly (I simply used the Excel file of previous polls with the formula on it). About the albums that didn't recieve votes get tied after the last album voted (for instance if you voted for 78 albums the albums not voted got tied at #79 and receive the points for that position). So, Zorg, don't be afraid to vote, your list will be welcome.

Honorio, that is not the original decade scoring system. What we have done in the previous decade polls is giving unranked albums the mid-position. In your example, the 100 - 78 = 22 unranked albums would be assigned to place 39.5. Now, this may look too good for unheard albums, but it's a skewed score distribution so that the difference between #1 and #39.5 is much greater than the difference between #39.5 and #78. We have discussed this several times before, for example here: http://pub37.bravenet.com/forum/static/show.php?usernum=3172289350&frmid=10&msgid=1019881&cmd=show
Oops, thanks, Henrik. So probably I've done incorrectly the calculations for the 50s poll!!! If you don't mind I'm going to send you the excel files before posting the results and please tell me if there's something wrong.
So Zorg's question was providential!!
Many thanks for your list, boys.
So far we got 14 lists, only two more than the 50s. Since I still haven’t written mine (but I’ll do) we can count with 15. It would be nice getting to 20 or so. So please the ones that still don’t know what to do I recommend to try it, you don’t need to listen to the whole albums, simply vote for the one you know (many of them are widely known).
I have received vote so far from nj, sonofsamiam, Henry, Mindrocker, Georgie, nicolas, Harold Wexler, Stephan, Gillingham, Brad, Miguel, Listyguy, John, Henrik and Romaint. No need to say that all the list were fantastic. Is someone else sent his list and it’s not one of those names please let me know.
After receiving five lists more, the ones from Chris, Rocky Raccoon, Charlie Driggs, Nassim and Jackson we have a total of 20 lists (just the number I was hoping for!) so the 60s poll is now officially closed. Finally I missed Zorg and BillAdama lists (but don’t worry, there’s a lot to work in and to enjoy happening right now in AM Forum!). I haven’t compiled the votes yet but the first inspection to your lists reveal that the results are going to be great. You can expect the first results for the next week. Many thanks to al the voters!!
I was planning to begin... today!
I wish I could post the results in a week or so (but probably not given my historical background, haha). If not I’m afraid I should stop for some days in the middle of the posting to find some time to write my own lists for 2000.
And I wish that the 60s threads could raise more general interest than the 50s ones. I mean, a thread about the Black Eyes Peas concert at the Super Bowl got almost the same views (in fact even more since at least one third of the views on the 1950s poll come from myself). No bitterness here, the 1950s music is so far-off that it’s difficult to interest young people (especially in the middle of the end of year lists). But since the music for the 60s is more widely known and lauded I think I can expect more visits. Or so I wish...
As excited as I am to see your 1960's presentation (and results!), Honorio, I for one wouldn't mind waiting while you take a well deserved break for a bit after the work you put into the '50's poll.
I was around for the results of the 50's poll and definitely will be fot the results of this one. And chances are much bigger that I will post now and then this time.
Sorry I didn't get a ballot in. My big thesis deadline is March 1st. If this happened any other time in the last few years, I would have randomly done it one day when I was bored.

Good luck with the thesis. What is the topic?
Natural language processing. I'm coding a program that can parse english sentences, and testing whether N-gram based disambiguation can be improved by combining together data from syntactically similar words.

This title bring forth many new questions to which you can apply your abundant disambiguation skills:
Is this thesis for a Computer science department?
At which university?
Do you foresee this technique have any use in voice recognition technologies?

Information Technology with Software Engineering focus, Harvard Extension School.
With more development it might have some use in voice recognition but right now the time complexity is too...exponential for that to be effective. To be useful for voice recognition, it would need to make smarter decisions about which parsing trees are worth pursuing along the way.
The basic idea could probably be applied to voice recognition though, since the concept is to overcome the problem of sparseness of data.

Have you developed any patent applications based on your innovations?
If you do submit some patent applications, I would be especially interested in seeing them when they are published. You may also want to talk to the company Nuance if you are looking for employment related to voice recognition technology. Good luck!!

I know what position you are in. I have to hand in my master's thesis on March third...
