Best songs of 1969 songs: the Results Live part II
Well, I will continue the updates of the 1969 songs poll list in different threads attending the demands of Nicolas. Yes, too many You tube videos blocked my computer too (but it was not the cause of the damage). We got no technically a Top 125 because I’ve assigned the same points coming from Harold Wexler to “The End” than to “Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight” (I’m sure you prefer it this way) ending finally with a Top 124. Anyway these are the new incorporations to our list:
As always, I won't vote until the end of the month (this time on the 28th because I'm going to Istanbul on the 29th)
BUt there are some songs which I am sure will be in my final list.
Can I post some of them her ? Or if you prefer I can do it in the 1969 recommendation thread.
It's as you like it (as a great man once wrote.
In brief : nobody voted for
- Neil Young's "Cowgirl in the Sand" (my number 2 at the moment)
- Tony joe White's "Polk Salad Annie" (my current #3)
- the Who's "Go to the Mirror", but I'm considering voting for "We're not gonna take it" if need be, because it's almost the same song
- JOhnny Cash's "San Quentin" : this is truly incredible, I mean the live recording. It's not the song per se, but the situation : JC plays in a prison
and just criticizes the same prison. Imagine the warden's face. One of the greatest live performances ever in terms of intensity. THe audience is really part of the recording, like an extra musician.
- Desmond Dekker's "Israelites" (how come nobody voted for that Jamaican gem ?)
- Merle Haggard "Okie From Muskogee" (same comment with country instead of Jamaican)
- Bob Dylan's "Tell Me That It Isn't True" (not guaranteed to be in my final list, but I want to point out that I love Nashville Skyline, that a lot of critics dismissed because it was a tribute to country music. It's great, Dylan tries to sing "for good", it's fun and i love those Nashville musicians)
