Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

The songs have been chosen, and the interest is high! It's time to decide just how we want to run this thing. Here is the thread with a list of the songs and where you can hear them- it's never to early to get a head start! The game will feature a 64-song double-elimination bracket. To get your head around what that entails, head here for an example!

I suggest that we go by the traditional bracket standard of 1 week for voting in each round. What we need to iron out is the question of how many songs to vote on each week, and whether comments should be required.

So I ask those of you who want to participate what you'd like to see. Please vote for the option you prefer:

1: 8 songs per week, comments required
2: 8 songs per week, no comments
3: 16 songs per week, comments required
4: 16 songs per week, no comments
5: Something else (Please expound)

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

Option 1.

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

Option 1 as well.

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

Option 3

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

If it is weekly, I say go option #3. Comments are essential and it will go along quicker with 16 than 8.

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

Option 3 for me !
And comments not only in english...please.

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

Since it's only 64 songs, may as well stretch it out with option 1.

Option uno, por favor.

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

5. 8 a week for the first round, 16 a week after everyone's heard everything...not to discourage re-listening, just to move things along. and no comments required-those who really have something to say will make them anyway.

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

Gotta say I like Option 1 the best as well.

I agree with this except for the no comments part. 8 a week would stretch this out into 2011, which I don't think is preferable for this kind of competition.

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

I was going to say 3, but 1's good too.

Here's a breakdown of how many songs there are to vote on in each round.

64 + 0 = 64
32 + 32 = 64
0 + 32 = 32
16 + 16 = 32
0 + 16 = 16
8 + 8 = 16
0 + 8 = 8
4 + 4 = 8
0 + 4 = 4
2 + 2 = 4
0 + 2 = 2
2 = 2

So, total weeks looks like this:
Option 1/2: 34 weeks
Option 3/4: 20 weeks
Option 5a: 28 weeks

I know the board has a high tolerance for long term games (As I can very well attest to), but if we're going to do double elimination format, maybe it's wise to switch to 16 after the first round.

0 + 32 = 32
0 + 16 = 16
0 + 8 = 8
0 + 4 = 4
0 + 2 = 2
???

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

I would like to change my vote to 5a please.

# in winner bracket playing + # in loser bracket playing.

Round 1: 64 in winner bracket, 0 in loser bracket.
Round 2: 32 in winner bracket, 32 in loser bracket.
Round 3: Winner bracket does not play, 32 in loser bracket.
Round 4: 16 in winner bracket, 16 in loser bracket.
Round 5: Winner bracket does not play, 16 in loser bracket.

Etc.

In the double elimination format Moonbeam has shown to us, between every round there's a round where only the loser bracket plays.

I'm going with 3, but how will the songs be seeded?

This definitely should be random.

I've already made the bracket through random picks. I slightly adjusted it so that people who nominated 2 songs wouldn't have them face each other in the first round. I've tried to make the bracket publicly available, but I can't seem to find a site that's happy with the character lengths required.

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

BillAdama used Bracketmaker.com for the medium acclaim game (hey, that rhymes).

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

It sounds like most people would like to start with 8 songs per week, with comments required. I can dig it!

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

Bracketmaker.com only has double elimination up to 32.

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

Moonbeam, when the actual game starts, will the links be with the songs so we can hear them straight from the post?

For the first round at least, yes!

Re: Unacclaimed Song Game: Next Steps

Other:

8 per week, comments optional.

It can sometimes be difficult to explain why one loves a song so much. Especially week after week.
