Pixies vs. Nirvana vs. The Beach Boys
Stevie Wonder vs. The Clash
U2 vs. Jimi Hendrix
Madonna vs. The Velvet Underground
Radiohead vs. Talking Heads
David Bowie vs. Bruce Springsteen
Led Zeppelin vs. Prince
The Beatles vs. Bob Dylan
NIRVANA--
Wicked 3-way, I guess it comes down to who deserves to be in final 8 more...
THE CLASH--
Want to vote for Stevie, but I can't...
U2--
Another difficult decision...
MADONNA--
To me this is a matchup of the 2 worst artist left in the tourney. This is more of me wanting to see VU get knocked out than a statement of Madonna being one of the 8 best of all-time...
RADIOHEAD--
I didn't think they had a chance to be The Stones...
BOWIE--
2 Legends facing off, I just enjoy listening to Bowie a little more...
PRINCE--
Never thought I'd ever vote against Zepp, but I am secretly hoping Prince wins the whole thing...
Nirvana
The Clash (I would rank Stevie higher for songs and the Clash higher for albums so that's quite a complicated choice)
Jimi Hendrix
The Velvet Underground
Radiohead
David Bowie
Led Zeppelin
The Beatles
Pixies (ouch for nirvana, ouch ouch for the beach boys)
Stevie (ouch ouch ouch ouch)
Jimi Hendrix
VU (ouch)
Talking Heads (ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch)
Springsteen (ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch)
Prince (ouch ouch)
Bob Dylan (ouch ouch ouch ouch)
Favourite artist: Well it's probably Bobby D and then VU
Favourite Album: London Calling
Favourite Song: Tomorrow Never Knows
FNVF: count the ouches
Who's gonna win? My predictions - Nirvana, Stevie, Jimi, VU, Radiohead (though the fact that Alice In Chains beat them in non-AM is worrying for them), Bowie (surprised how one-sided this is in AM), Led Zep (very interesting to see how this breaks down, AM is seemingly splitting in half, so it's up to the non-AMers), the Beatles.
Luckily each of my favorites is in a different match.
Pixies - Easy.
Stevie Wonder - Listened to London Calling yesterday after 3 years. Boy, I had forgotten how great that album is, lots of perfect songs coming in a row. When you think the next will take a little down the level, than comes an even better song. That said, Stevie still wins with a large margin here!
U2 - For sure. And that has nothing to do with the fact that Jimi belongs to my bottom 50 artists ever, to quote Moonbeam.
The Velvet Underground - No one I really like in this match, but VU's debut is admirable.
Talking Heads - The only dolorous vote of the round, but still an easy choice. This is how I would rank their albums:
1. In Rainbows
2. Fear of Music
3. Remain in Light
4. Talking Heads 77
5. OK Computer
6. More Songs About Buildings and Food
7. Kid A
8. The Bends
9. Speaking in Tongues
10. Amnesiac
Bruce Springsteen - It looks like the Boss' farewell this time. Now there's another reason for my disliking for Bowie.
Prince - The only artist with 2 albums in my personal top 10. This is turning to become the toughest fight of the round (surely not for me!).
The Beatles - The anticipated final. I feel Dylan will end up winning here, due to the anti-Beatles thing that always appear this times. I'll vote for the underdog (!!!), though.
NIRVANA 19 - Pixies 19 - Beach Boys 16 (Insanely tough, and I know I'm only adding to the vote splitting, but I had to go with the act I feel pips it)
STEVIE WONDER 19 - The Clash 16
U2 17 - Jimi 16
MADONNA 17 - Velvet Underground 15
RADIOHEAD 20 - Talking Heads 16
DAVID BOWIE 19 - Bruce 15
LED ZEP 18 - Prince 14
BEATLES 20 - Dylan 13
Out of 42 votes we had one tie, 2 matchups decided 22-20 and the surprise biggest winner of the day Stevie over The Clash 26-16...
Nirvana 47.6% / Beach Boys 30.9% / Pixies 21.5%
Stevie 61.9% / Clash 38.1%
***TIE U2 & Jimi 50% each***
Madonna 52.4% / VU 47.6%
Radiohead 59.5% / Talking Heads 40.5%
Bowie 57.1% / Springsteen 42.9%
Prince 52.4% / Led Zeppelin 47.6%
Beatles 59.5% / Dylan 40.5%
The Clash's exit is a big surprise to me. I'm also surprised (but pleased) that Prince took out Led Zep and surprised (and not pleased) that Madonna beat VU.
