Led Zeppelin vs. Soundgarden
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles vs. Eagles
Johnny Cash vs. The Animals
Red Hot Chili Peppers vs. The Doors
Prince vs. Daft Punk
Foo Fighters vs. Elvis Costello
Queen vs. John Lennon
Bjork vs. Santana
LED ZEPPELIN--
The might Zep should take this one easy, looking down the road at a Led Zeppelin/Prince matchup that should be one of the best of the tourney. As for Soundgarden, can they recapture some of the old magic, or are they washed up?
THE MIRACLES--
Maybe its my dislike for the Eagles, or my affection for the 60's Motown sound...
CASH--
I wonder how much love for JC there would have been without his final 6 albums in the Rick Rubin era???
RHCP--
As much as I really The Doors, The Peppers have been a band I've really enjoyed for a long, long time...
PRINCE--
I wonder how many daft Punk fans vote for them in this round???
ELVIS--
I hate voting against Foo, I gotta in this one...
QUEEN--
Never been much of a Lennon fan, to me classics like "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Killer Queen" are just too much to ignore...
SANTANA--
A toss up for me, not big enough of a fan of either to want them in the next round...
Led Zeppelin 15, Soundgarden 7
Smokey Robinson & the Miracles 16, Eagles 4
Johnny Cash 18, The Animals 10
Red Hot Chili Peppers 12, The Doors 3
Prince 18, Daft Punk 16
Elvis Costello 18, Foo Fighters 12
John Lennon 9, Queen 7
Björk 16, Santana 3
Zep
Smokey
JC
Doors (Go ahead, make another remark about how this forum is losing it's taste)
Prince
Elvis
Queen (Hmm...My favorite band vs. a solo career I hate witha buring passion...)
Santana (Reffer to my comment on the Doors-RHCP matchup)
Fave: Queen (Led Zeppelin Close Behind)
FNVF: RHCP, Eagles, Animals, Bjork
Fave Song: Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway, Hotel California (All top 10)
Fave Album: The Doors
Soundgarden 11, Led Zeppelin 7: I'm not really a fan of either artist, but I tend to enjoy Soundgarden's songs more. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles 12, Eagles 0: I have no time for the bland arena rock that defines The Eagles, and while I should get to know Smokey Robinson better, this is still an easy win. Pass: I know fewer than 5 songs from each, so I won't vote. The Doors 18, Red Hot Chili Peppers 13: I really took to The Doors about 6 years ago, and while they've become hated by many, I think they've produced at least 3 killer albums, L.A. Woman being my favorite. I really like "Otherside", "Scar Tissue" and several other RHCP singles, but I've never completely warmed to any of their albums. Prince 20, Daft Punk 13: I really should investigate Daft Punk more, as I like the limited material I know of theirs. That said, they wouldn't ever stand a chance against Prince. Elvis Costello 15, Foo Fighters 10: I've only got Elvis' first 2 albums, but I love the heck out of This Year's Model. I'm not really sure where I should go from there- probably chronologically. Foo Fighters, meanwhile, are the very definition of 10/20 here- complete ambivalence. Queen 3, John Lennon 0: It disgusts me that I have to vote for one of these artists. Queen's glam-lite miasma just wins out over John Lennon's unending quest to irritate. Björk 20, Santana 10: Björk is the most important female artist of the past 20 years in my book, and my gender split of favorite artists is about 50/50, so that really means something! Santana is a bit of an enigma for me, but not one I'm that keen on understanding better.
Favorite artist: Prince (surprise, surprise)
Favorite artist not voted for: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Favorite album: 1999 (#1 all-time)
Favorite song: "Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)" (#1 all-time)
I'm going to jump bandwagon and do the number thing.
Led Zeppelin 19 vs. Soundgarden 14 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles 12 vs. Eagles 6 Johnny Cash 15 vs. The Animals 11
Red Hot Chili Peppers 13 vs. The Doors 15 Prince 20 vs. Daft Punk 13
Foo Fighters 11 vs. Elvis Costello 17
Queen 2 vs. John Lennon 16 Bjork 17 vs. Santana 12
Both my least favorite popular 70s bands are up today. I really hate stuff that's oversung, overemoted, melodramatic or kitschy, and these two are more guilty of it than any other band. Other than some great guitar riffs I find nothing likable about either of them.
Hopefully Elvis Costello gets through. I'm a little concerned that post-grunge seems to be rather popular in the non-AM block, whereas quirky pop seems to be rather unpopular.
Either way Zep/Prince seems like an inevitable R16 match.
Led Zeppelin
The Eagles
Johnny Cash
The Doors - tough choice, went with the more influential (IMHO)
Prince
Foo Fighters - not a fan of this Elvis
Queen - my appreciation for Queen has grown tremendously over the years
Santana - Bjork is just too out there for me
Led Zeppelin - Easy win
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Easy win
Johnny Cash - Easy win
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Kinda easy win
Prince - Painful to vote agaisnt Daft Punk.
Elvis Costello - Close, but obvious choice
John Lennon - Tight call.
Bjork - Easy win.
Fave - Will not choose between Prince and Bjork yet.
Fave not voted for - Daft Punk
