I will always love the 1st four albums. After that it's hit or miss, mostly misses. Pumpkins have had some great moments, but not enough for me to take them here...

Roxy Music - Tough choice between a searching, innovative band whose work turns me off more than it turns me on (largely because of their leader's god awful voice), and a dumb band whose work makes me rock out in spite of myself. If it were not for the genius of "Virginia Plain," AC/DC would win this.
Beck - I like Portishead, but this is no contest. Beck is firmly in my Mt. Rushmore of artists to emerge in the last thirty years.
Chuck Berry - Teach those greaseballs how to rock n roll, Chuck.

I like Bo Diddley, but U2's early stuff is enough to make me vote for them. U2 needs to go up against one of my favorites so I can finally vote against them like I want to! At least they'll probably knock out AC/DC.

U2 16, Bo Diddley 11: I've always been somewhat of a surface fan of U2, but I can't deny that I really love at least ten of their singles.
Roxy Music 19, AC/DC 0: I haven't seen this disparate of a matchup yet! Roxy Music basically represents everything I love about music, while AC/DC represents everything I hate about it. Just got tickets to see my first Roxy show today, as well!
Portishead 13, Beck 7: I only listened to Dummy last year, but I quite like it. Beck is an artist I really should like based on my other taste, but I find myself disliking most of his work, "Loser" in particular. I do like "E-Pro", though.
Guns n' Roses 15, Chuck Berry 13: I should be ashamed of this vote, but it's honest. The truth is that while I like a lot of what I hear by Chuck Berry, I don't know as many songs that I enjoy of his as I do with GNR. "Paradise City" all the way!
Lenny Kravitz 13, R.E.M. 8: I used to really like Lenny Kravitz, but he really went south after 1995. R.E.M. has had a few songs I enjoy, and I can understand the appeal, but it their music usually turns me off.
Jimi Hendrix 15, The Temptations 11: Pretty easy win for Hendrix. I'm going to dig further into his stuff to be more versed in it for the next matchup.
James Brown 14, Crowded House 13: Close matchup between two artists I respect but know little about other than the big songs. James Brown just edges it.
Metallica 13, Smashing Pumpkins 8: I'm not the biggest fan of real metal (but give me hair metal all day , but I really did enjoy Metallica's singles from 88-91. Smashing Pumpkins is a really talented band, but I just can't take Corgan's voice.
