Stevie Wonder vs. Sly & The Family Stone
Ramones vs. Rush
The Who vs. The Police
Parliament/Funkadelic vs. Eric Clapton
Elton John vs. Little Richard
The Clash vs. Four Tops
Ray Charles vs. Simon & Garfunkel
Deep Purple vs. Lionel Richie
STEVIE WONDER--
Tough choice between 2 legends, to me Stevie's great run from '72-'77 was one of the best ever...
RAMONES--
Start off 4.2 with 2 extremely difficult choices. I love both these bands so I had to resort to making top 10 lists for both, just liked ramones stuff just a little more...
THE WHO--
3 tough picks in a row. Resorted to top lists again and went with The Who...
PFUNK--
Finally an easy choice in this one, especially since they knocked out Oasis...
ELTON JOHN--
The only Elton that matters is 1970-1975, everything else is fluff. To me songs like "Tiny Dancer" and "Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" are better than anything Little Richard did...
THE CLASH--
The only band that matters, period... tough draw for the Tops...
RAY CHARLES--
Not a big fan of S&G, "I've Got A Woman" and "What I'd Say" are better than anything S&G ever did, to me...
DEEP PURPLE --
Weakest matchup so far, it's a shame because I would vote for SLY, RUSH, The POPO & FOUR TOPS over Deep Purple...
Stevie Wonder 19, Sly & the Family Stone 18
Ramones 19, Rush 10
The Who 18, The Police 15
Parliament/Funkadelic 16, Eric Clapton 4
Little Richard 18, Elton John 15
The Clash 20, Four Tops 13
Ray Charles 18, Simon & Garfunkel 15
Deep Purple 11, Lionel Richie 2
Sly & The Family Stone - my #12 vs. #13 and while Stevie actually is #12, I give my vote to Sly the underdog.
Ramones
The Police
Parliament/Funkadelic
Little Richard
The Clash
Simon & Garfunkel
Deep Purple - it's a joke that Lionel is among the 128...

It is a joke, Lionel got the benefit of a weak bracket... Billy Bragg, Coolio and Whitney Houston...

I love Billy Bragg. He's better than most male songwriters critics like to put on a pedistal like Tom Waits, the Buckleys, Nick Drake, Elliot Smith, Bon Ivar, Sufjan Stevens and even Elvis Costello. In fact I'd rather listen to his catalog of music than his Mermaid Avenue counterparts Wilco. He knows how to write great songs with great melodies and that thick accent makes he songs even more charming. He deserves better.
Stevie Wonder 19, Sly & the Family Stone 13: Easy win for one of the greatest 70s artists. Ramones 17, Rush 8: An even easier one for one of punk's greats! The Police 10, The Who 3: It's a shame one of these bands has to move on. Ugh. Parliament/Funkadelic 19, Eric Clapton 10: Easy win for the great funk act of the 70s! Little Richard 13, Elton John 3: Yet another easy win- this is proving to be an easy bracket! The Clash 15, Four Tops 10: Another great punk act takes it. Ray Charles 11, Simon & Garfunkel 7: Not crazy about either one, but I think I'd get more out of knowing Ray Charles' material better. Lionel Richie 9, Deep Purple 9: I'm not a fan of either per se, but I like some cheesy 80s music.
Favorite artist: Stevie Wonder
Favorite artist I didn't vote for: Sly & the Family Stone
Favorite album: Songs in the Key of Life
Favorite song: "My Eyes Don't Cry"
What an incredible bracket... A ton of the most vital artists of the post-war era.
Sly & The Family Stone - Deciding between these two very different, but equally funky, giants, is well near impossible. I give Sly the nod today because of his ability to thrill me more than Stevie.
Ramones
The Who
Parliament/Funkadelic - Funkier than either Stevie or Sly, but not quite at the same level.
Elton John - Great respect, but little love, for either. John's melodic sense wins over Richard's sometimes forced persona and performance.
The Clash
Simon & Garfunkel - Ray is more important, S&G are personal faves (I wore their albums out in high school). Go with the personal fave.
Lionel Richie - Not a fan of Deep Purple, which my uncle would not like. He was the drumemr for Episode Six with Roger Glover and Ian Gillan, before they joined DP. Episode Six just this year jammed for the first time in over forty years. I actually enjoy some of Richie's hits.
Stevie Wonder - hard decision, but oh well, must be made
pass
The Who - eeasy.
P?funk
pass
The Clash - awesome punk band

pass (don't know them, by the looks of it, I shouldn't know them)
Hey Slick, I'm going to be away September 4th-7th with no internet access. Before I leave, can I send you an ordered list of all the bands still in so you can cast my vote for me?
