Next Years UMT...

I have decided to run version 2.0 of this tournament that will start Tuesday Feb 1st, 2007...

This time around the seeding in the tourney will be determined by 34 different factors. They will be off of lists comprised of top 100 artist lists off all-time and will be placed on an Excel sheet using the scoring matrix I used for the Slicknation project. i.e....

1- 100
2- 91.67
3- 84.62
10- 55.00
50- 18.33
100 - 10.00

The 33 lists will be determined this way...

2 top 500 lists (different but similar scoring matrix, x5 for 1-100, x4 for 101-200, x3 for 201-300, x2 for 301-400 and x1 for 401-500.)
The Original Slicknation Rankings
The AM Artist Rankings (With Henrik's OK, of course)

10 top 100 lists:
RS 100 Greatest Artists of All-Time
DigitalDreamDoor - 100 Greatest Rock Artists
VH1 Top 100 All Time Artists
Billboard Top 100 Artists of All-Time
Top 100 Artists of each decade; 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's & 00's (Using a website called musicvf.com which figures both the US & UK pop charts along with specialty charts.)

10 top 100 lists from non-AM members
(For which I will consider myself part of these 10)

10 top 100 lists from AM members
(Especially all of you who have participated from the get-go.) (If you want to just copy and paste from the last forum poll or create a new one just post it here.)

This way we would get equal representation from all 4 factors giving 1000 votes or 25% each. Add to that 25 bonus points from any artists that made a significant impact in 2010 for the 33rd factor.

I will over time post all 33 of these lists and at the end will post the results prior to the start of UMT 2.0...

It'll make for tough voting if I have to eliminate everything released after Feb. 1, 2007!

Let's see here, not 2007... let's try this again. How about Tuesday Feb. 1st, 2011.

I wasn't even drinking when I wrote that so I do not have an excuse!!!!

Re: Next Years UMT...

One thought, is there any way to get sales and airplay figures from, say, five years or more after the first release of the album?

It's one thing to get sales and airplay from the audience you're targeted for at the time, it's entirely another to continuously find new audiences over a long period of time.

Let's put it this way. Two albums were released in 1990. You know nothing about these two albums except that album A sold 9 million in 1990 and 1 million from 1991-2010, and album B sold 1 million in 1990 and 9 million from 1991-2010. If you took a poll, which album would you predict would be more popular in 2010?

Re: Next Years UMT...

Cool, it'll be starting on my birhtday.

Re: Next Years UMT...

How does this sound... Have the 5 non voter lists (Original Slicknation rankings, AM top 500, Billboard top 500, VH1 100 Greatest Artists, RS 100 Greatest Artists) and come up with a spreadsheet tallying scores and have a start with the artists that participate.

Then have the voters rate each artist from (-1) to 20 on their own personal choices. It will also give each voter an opportunity to add up to 5 new artists that didn't make the original list.

Once each voter has had an opportunity to rate each artist. I will add up that total, add it to the orginal total and then rank them from 1-1024. This will become the seedings in next years tournament.

Thoughts on this process???
