A lot of acts I like which I’m voting against:
Madness is a terribly underrated band, but of course I don’t think they’re within a light year of R.E.M.
Temps vs. Lou Reed was the hardest choice I’ve had to make yet this round. It’s kind of chickenshit, but Lou will be riding VU through a few more rounds, and anyway I always felt like I was *supposed* to like his solo stuff more than I actually do…which is a minor red flag.
Chemical Brothers were just about the only contemporary act I was following for a brief span in the late 90s, and I still have a soft spot for them. And, if I were a strategic voter, I’d pick them to spare my favorite group a very, very difficult matchup in a couple of rounds. But Hendrix is Hendrix.
Erasure is much better than they should be, but drew an impossible matchup.
I actually like Crowded House quite a lot, but in a close matchup, this month I prefer Muse for reasons based in bitterness and jealousy. And no, I’m not explaining that…

Ugh. Ugh. I have to vote for a band I strongly dislike against a band I hate. Crowded House may be all based around annoying cheesy hooks, but at least they aren't exaggeratedly melodramatic. At least either one will probably get crushed by James Brown.
