#7 Eric B. & Rakim
#8 Portishead
#2 Beck
#1 Chuck Berry
#2 Guns 'N Roses
None of these were particularly close except for Portishead vs The Verve, and even then I feel like Portishead is clearly stronger. I feel like I should say that I'm not a Roxy Music fan though.

#3 Bo Diddley
#3 Roxy Music
#8 Portishead
The Verve has a few great songs, but they're a one album wonder and even that album is kind of top heavy.
#2 Beck
#1 Chuck Berry
#2 Guns 'N Roses
Love the song Faith, but I love a lot more songs by GNR.

Bo Diddley vs. Howlin’ Wolf: a harsh matchup of two absolutely essential R&B guys. It’s an easier choice for me than for many—I absolutely love Bo Diddley—but I still feel a pang about bumping Howlin’ Wolf.
Roxy Music vs. Eric B. & Rakim: a tricky one for a couple of reasons. EB&R have one absolute classic album and not a whole lot else. “Roxy Music” was a crucial glam band in their Brian Eno iteration, then basically a vanity project for Bryan Ferry on Avalon in the 80s (my vote here is meant to recognize the earlier phase).

Given my preference for relatively easily accessible melodies, I still listen far more to Avalon than anything else by Roxy Music. Go figure :-)
