#1 Rolling Stones
#9 Soul Asylum - "Runaway Train" was a good song
pass - I know Robbie Williams is huge in England...I don't get him.
#4 Collective Soul - "The World I Know" & "Shine"
pass - the who?
#11 Herb Alpert - more of a vote against Sade
#7 Slade - LOVE SLADE!! "Run Runaway" is AWESOME! It was my #2 all-time in the songs poll.
#2 The Platters
Today's favorite: Slade
Today's favorite I didn't vote for: Gary Numan
1. The Rolling Stones
8. Procol Harum
12. The Pharcyde
4. Collective Soul
3. The Jam
11. Herb Alpert (I like Sade, but this matchup doesn’t put her in the best light)
7. Slade (I like Numan’s genre much more, but I’m voting for a band that was really influential over an artist who was just really influenced)
2. The Platters

#3 The Jam

#2 The Platters
Schleuse, Gary Numan was heavily influenced by Philip Dick, but his music was very influential on the synth pop scene!
The influence I had in mind was Berlin-era David Bowie, of which Numan's music seems to me a wan imitation.
I can definitely see the Bowie influence (and Kraftwerk), but Berlin-era Bowie wasn't really pop. Granted, I love the Berlin stuff, but it wasn't exactly bound for the charts. Numan's role was more as the first synth pop star, and for Replicas alone, I think he deserved it.
