Re: Spin Top 125 of Last 25 Years is Up

Okay, they don't like Kid A. I'm fine with that. And yeah, they really like Achtung Baby I guess. That's alright too. Their rap choices are really good. But....

Dookie (#42) > Surfer Rosa (#45)? Seriously? Really? Well, I honestly never thought that would happen but I guess I was wrong.

Re: Spin Top 125 of Last 25 Years is Up

I had mixed feeling towards this list. There are so many terrific albums and masterpieces on this list, but i guess the fact they omitted others that are on the same level or something similar, aside the fact i disagree about the placements of some albums. It's kinda like i can't separate if a list without Kid A is a breathe of fresh air or just playin' ridiculous... i can't explain. Maybe they should have released a EOD list before doing something as far as the best albums of the last 25 years. I have no idea which albums they liked this decade, only if i make a heavy research inside their archives and EOY. But i would still don't know how they feel about the decade overall, after it was over. I liked some of the surprises like . I guess i can't argue about the female singers, there were some great picks like MIA, Hole, The Breeders, Fiona Apple, Liz Phair inside the top 40, Bjork and PJ Harvey having 2 records, while i believe it would have been 3 if they hadn't omitted To Bring You My Love, which i didn't get it cause it's like their favorite album of hers, but a top 10 for Rid of Me was fine.

But still i feel this list could've been much more. Even though, the saddest thing, by far, must be some comments trashing Spin cause they didn't add any of Muse's stupid albums.

Good for a magazine list.

I also saw them trashing Spin for not including the Killers or Linkin Park so at least their not dumbing it down (ie making is accessible)for the young readers.

Re: Spin Top 125 of Last 25 Years is Up

would this be considered their EOD? If I did the math right these were the highest ranking albums of the 00s
1. OutKast, Stankonia
2. The Strokes, Is This It
3. Jay-Z, The Blueprint
4. Daft Punk, Discovery
5. D'Angelo, Voodoo
6. Kanye West, The College Dropout
7. White Stripes, Elephant
8. Eminem, The Marshall Mathers LP
9. Arcade Fire, Funeral
10.Wilco, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

Re: Spin Top 125 of Last 25 Years is Up

As expected with such a list, there are many picks I like and many I don't like. On the whole, most of the albums I've heard from the list are really good. However, since they are judging it based on influence, I have no idea how that U2 album got number one over Nevermind or OK Computer.

Re: Spin Top 125 of Last 25 Years is Up

I've posted the complete list on the Critics' Lists forum.

There are a total of 30 albums on the list from the 2000s, but obviously this isn't an EOD list and won't be added to the spreadsheet. Of those 30, the only ones that aren't in the EOD top 300 are Veni Vidi Vicious (#701) and Spin's #1 album of 2007, New Wave (#1119).

Re: Spin Top 125 of Last 25 Years is Up

I hate, and i mean HATE, Achtung Baby. other than that this list is pretty average other than the unusual placement of Hüsker Dü, of which i approve.
