They're rewarding the wrong La Roux single. "Bulletproof" annoys me to no end, especially when she sings lower than her natural register.

I do not understand how critics could even contemplate ranking 1901 higher than Lisztomania.

Never underestimate the power of advertising. Here in the U.S., you can't watch TV for any length of time without seeing the Cadillac commercial that features "1901," and I have no doubt that this massive exposure is directly responsible for a fair amount of the astonishing success Phoenix is having with WAP.
