Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

Hi

As I told you I decided that once a week (hopefully) I would post two individual album lists.

68 lists in just one post is way too much and discourages people from reading.

So here's the first pair. Actually the 2 lists stand on both ends of Henrik's chart (on the abscissa, horizontal axis).

Nick's list is the closest to the final list and Rune's is the most remote.

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

This is a pretty honest list of what I listen to, or have been listening to (and still find enjoyable) earlier. I've never really been a big fan of the big artists (Bowie, Dylan..) or big bands (Stones, Beatles). So many of you might find my list pretty strange, with lots of forgettable albums, but that's what I like. However, there's a little joke I put in there. Can you find it?

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

I'm going to go with Kiss - Kiss.

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

No, that's not it. I would have placed it higher today, been listening to it a lot the last couples of weeks. Kiss are playing two shows in Norway this summer, and hopefully I can go to one of them.

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

Sorry to think your taste was a joke

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

It's gotta be Paul Anka.

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

That's alright. You should check out that album, it's better than you think.

No, the joke is a combination of two albums.

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

Not Paul Anka either. That's a good album... really!

I'm listening now. Yes, this is cool stuff. Sorry.

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

Rune's taste doesn't seem to be too esoteric. After all, he has the right album at number 1!

and i thoroughly appreciate that, Rune. no matter how many of your wives stumble through mindless youtube clips, i'll grant you 3 out of 2 possible for this

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

There's a lot of stuff on Rune's list I don't like, but there's also some stuff I think I need to hear. Like, Holy Bible is really high on my list ever since I liked Journal For Plague Lovers.

Rune seems to appreciate albums with quirky charm. Nothing wrong with that.

Nice list Rune. It's nice to see that you can avoid the influence of this site while making the list.
I don't see that list so esoteric either. I guess I have heard more albums on Runes list than many other lists. That must be something to do with that I have heard zillions of albums from 00's (and so it's Rune) and fewer from the rest decades. It also might be something to do with that we are both from Northern Counrties. For Example I have also both Vashti Bunyan's albums in my list.
Is the joke Richard & Linda Thompson's albums?

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

As a matter of fact, you're next, pop elton (see the new thread)

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

I'm intrigued by the debut album by The Coral. What's it like, Rune?

I,ve spent the last five minutes trying to find a good way of describing it and I,m drawing a blank.
Its a real hotch potch of musical styles and just sounds like a bunch of young talented musicians making music for themselves without a single thought of trying to be "cool" or "popular". Great art-work too, really fits in with the whole feel of the album.

Journal For Plague Lovers wasn't bad, I must admit, but The Holy Bible is just something different. It's scary, haunting, and nothing in the Manics discography can ever match it. That's my opinion, at least. Not the albums before it, and definitely not the albums following.

That's because I'm charming in a quirky way myself :)

I put THB at 10 in my list. I think that is perhaps just a little too high, but it is a one of the best albums of the nineties and it is bizarre how far ahead it is in comparison to the manics other work. I cannot think of a bigger disparity in a body of artist's work with such a grand highlight!

Nice list Rune.

Thanks. I liked your list as well. I believe we have a quite similar taste in music.

No, that's definitely not the joke. The joke is about two different band, one "good" and one "bad". I like both albums, but the placement of the "good" is based on the placement of the "bad". If you can understand that..

It's something different. Like mentioned above, it has a lot of genres mixed together, and sounds pretty spectacular. My favorite is the Russian cossack music in Shadows Fall.

You have albums from two different Nirvana bands. Is this the joke?

Speaking of The Coral and Holy Bible. I like both albums but I haven't listened to neither album for years. Actually I think I haven't listened Holy Bible for a decade. It was the most interesting Manics album (maybe not my favourite but most interesting). I have c-cassette so maybe it's time to get the album in another format (or listen to it via Spotify).

Re: Individual lists 2 by 2 : Rune & Nick

By the way, the joke was placing the best (and only) Beatles album on the spot below Babylon Zoo. But I prefer Babylon Zoo, so if anything, it's the Beatles album that's placed too high.
