Re: EOD List New Musical Express (UK) (albums)

Well at least NME knows what it likes, and apparantly it LOVES The Libertines. Also, I think this is the first list where Speakerboxxx/The Love Below edges out Stankonia.

Re: EOD List New Musical Express (UK) (albums)

Thanks for posting. I will update the spreadsheet with this list plus the Fishpork top 20 as soon as I can. By the way, Otis: Fishpork has also posted a top 100 tracks of the decade list.

Re: EOD List New Musical Express (UK) (albums)

Interesting that their album of the year last year, MGMT's Oracular Spectacular, doesn't appear on this list.

100 MGMT Oracular Spectacular

...

NME's list is 100 albums and not 50, then? Dammit. I have to revise the spreadsheet now...

Also interesting that the highest rated 2009 album is Wild Beasts' "Two Dancers". Will that be their album of the year?

Re: EOD List New Musical Express (UK) (albums)

Aannnd the British piss on Wilco as always.

Re: EOD List New Musical Express (UK) (albums)

I wouldn't judge British tastes based on a list compiled by the NME.
The NME is written by complete morons, or serious writers with so little faith in their readership that they feel compelled to write like complete morons. Judging by the level of interest in The Libertines, I'd guess at the former.

Re: EOD List New Musical Express (UK) (albums)

I hardly think having Wilco at No. 43 is pissing on them. It's actually extremely high praise when you consider how many of thousands of albums were released during the decade. It's just a list, nothing personal, I'm sure.

Re: EOD List New Musical Express (UK) (albums)

The list was not solely voted for by current NME staff, ex-staffers and industry people (including Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend, Glasvegas as well as label bigwigs.)

It's a pretty good list, It sums up what the NME has been about for the past ten years beyond the numbers chasing front covers. If you don't like the NME chances are you you won't like this list.

Two Dancers would look like a favourite for #1 at the end of the year but of course there would have been plenty of people who didn't vote for any 2009 album who will change the shape of the ballot. In early 2000 Travis's The Man Who made Melody Maker's top 100 albums of all times. It was 5th on the year end list for 1999.

Re: EOD List New Musical Express (UK) (albums)

Cannot believe Coldplay's 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' dosen't even make the top 100...this was their #1 album of '02 & 40th best of ALL-TIME in '03!

Possibly com NME's happened to me. Sounds like a good album in the first three listeners, but now I never want to hear that record again

Re: EOD List New Musical Express (UK) (albums)

The absence of any Franz Ferdinand is both a shock and a shame; I guess the extra voting panel didn't see it as meritworthy (wrong)
