Unfortunately the French guy who has been making the excellent repro battery boxes for years has had some health issues. I'm hoping that once he gets back to health he'll send me some more.

They are black as per the originals which were then painted by Lucas in service colour. Ron

So the original military batteries were black material painted brown and not brown material?

Yes they were black as per most batteries of the time and then painted either Khaki, Service Brown or Olive drab according to the paint demand during the war. Here is a batch of mine that I sprayed and my original which was used for the mold for the repros.
