Would anybody be interested in division markings in waterslide?

Would anybody be interested in division/formation markings in waterslide?

We have a new type which we can also use a peelable varnish layer so you are left with just the print only on the tank and no glossy varnish

Its a nice idea, but most tanks have a double curve, would that work over a larger area?

Re: Would anybody be interested in division markings in waterslide?

I cannot see it being any harder than vinyl. The peelable clear cover is thicker than our normal waterslides meaning a bit more durable when trying to conform to curves. Generally how big are we looking at for most division/formation markings?

The small Airborne transfer shown here is 5 inches wide 5 1/2 inches tall, I presume its motorcycle or Jeep windscreen surround size?

Re: Would anybody be interested in division markings in waterslide?

Thanks for the reply. Does that seem too large for motorcycles? I know they didn't allow it after 42 but some seemed to still put them on motorcycles. Would 3-4" fit better? I've also seen some on mudguards

As far as I know these are original, but they could be post war.

The sizes are written in a wartime publication somewhere, I can't think where at the moment.

Re: Would anybody be interested in division markings in waterslide?

Regardless of the type of vehicle, most wartime formation signs seem to have been developed with the intention of them being easy to stencil or paint freehand.

Before the war, quite complicated regimental insignia were applied with transfers and to some extent this recommenced after the war. The complicated "Pegasus" sign was probably one of the few exceptions.

Re: Would anybody be interested in division markings in waterslide?

Valid point. I can see that as well. Definetely stencils. It just crossed my mind as our waterslides with the peelable varnish leave a matt paint-like finsih and are a lot quicker to do than stencils whilst looking very similar. I'll do a test batch of some and see how they go. The hardest part is sizing and most info i've found is 9" for standard vehicles and reduce the size to suit smaller vehicles. There was no specific sizing for motorcycles. In my mind approx 80mmm dia would seem proportionate?

Re: Would anybody be interested in division markings in waterslide?

The 45th Westcountry Division would be a good one to do, for a period of the war they used quite a few motorcycles probably because they were in the home defence role?

I have a pair of original large transfers and another turned up for sale a few years ago on an original early war pass plate, there was obviously a motorcycle size version but what level of detail would it have had?

A few images of below icluding a wartime christmas card and printed divisional badge.

Hi Rob,

Do you have a close up or scan of the bottom image. It looks to have coat of arms of franics drake inside. I'd need a scan to do it most likely

Its Drake's Drum from Buckland Abbey in Devon, the Division was made up from mostly westcountry units.

I have the Divisional commanders staff car mascot and flagpole in my collection.

Re: Would anybody be interested in division markings in waterslide?

Thanks, I'll add it. I've already started compiling a list of formation ones on our website. Any very popular AoS that people may be interested in?
