M20 rear mudguard bracket..

I recently purchased a NOS M20 rear mudguard...It's the 40/41 ribbed type without valances and with a matching rear tail piece that also has around 2 1/2" or so of ribbing at the upper end...The main bracket that attaches to the battery carrier/oiltank plate, when viewed from above, has a parallel piece that sits on the guard and three rivets attaching it to the guard..The three rivets are laid out in a straight line..This is the same type as fitted to my own 1941 M20 mudguard that's been on the bike since before it was demobbed in '68...

However, there is another, later, pattern for this bracket..On those, when viewed from above, the bracket has a slightly triangular shape where it sits on the 'guard and the middle rivet of the three is offset to the others to match this shape...Does anyone know when this change was made, or if not, do all wartime mudguards share the 'early' type bracket including late war unribbed 'guards?....Ian

Re: M20 rear mudguard bracket..

Hi Ian, I have one mid and one late 1942 non-ribbed guard and both have the offset centre rivet.
Cheers,
Adam.
