Cleaning tank

Hi all

After recently finishing putting my m20 together it is suffering from very weak mixture, i have found a treacle type mixture in the taps and float bowl so upon stripping realise there is a layer of what seems to be old fuel varnish in the tank and its gradually dissolving and clogging the taps up around every 5 miles. What can i do to the inside of the tank without having to have it all re painted? Id prefer to avoid these new fangled liner kits ive heard some horror stories.

Re: Cleaning tank

I've done a few by wrapping the tank in several layers of newspaper and being extremely careful with Petseal remover. Leave it over night and then hose it out the next day. I once used bubble wrap on one of my Velo tanks :scream: Which left an imprint of the bubbles, so had to respray it afterwards. Ron

Re: Cleaning tank

I’ve had a couple of bikes that were stored for years with fuel in the tanks. Nasty stuff. I cleaned them best I could and put some rust dissolver, goose shot, and drywall screws in the tank, wrapped it real well in an old sleeping bag. When the wife was away, put it in the dryer on no heat and tumbled it. No damage and it knocked all the loose stuff loose. Been running the bikes for years now with no issues.
