Craig, I have yet to tackle the 30204 conversion but looking at a wheel with original bearings the locknut does face with the wheel spacer. In this case that leaves a gap to the end of the half shaft of 0.053" with the wheel bearings adjusted. That's a hair or two under 1/16".
This BSA drawing does show the locknut protruding a little.
Thank you for this; it's reassuring. I'm building the bike from parts and didn't start with a complete hub for comparison. Hopefully I'll have the frame on its wheels at last this weekend.
