Hi, I'm looking to return my 1940 WM20, frame number 21500 to original spec. Does anyone supply a parts book (photocopy) for the contract covering this bike - C6654?
Also any original photos of bikes from this contract anywhere on this website please?
According to the factory ledgers, your frame with frame number WM20.21500 was despatched from the factory on 17/06/40, as part of the military contract C/6654. This was a contract for 4.000 bikes (frame numbers 21001 - 25000).
The census number for your frame would have been C4197012. The pictures below show how the bikes from your contract looked like when new.
Henk used to sell a CD or was it a DVD? full of M20 info from his website which hosts this forum, but since we lost Henk I guess they are no longer available? but someone here must have one and could take a look.
Hi Rupert
I have the 1940 parts list & the military supplement too
I am on a 4 day bike run here in Ireland - I’ll to check for it later
I think it’s on my iPad in a pdf format or jpeg
I have used these for my March 1940 deluxe bike

Presumably this will be the VAOS LV7 list of proprietary parts such as Lucas, Amal etc...and if John has been extremely fortunate, possibly the list of "Equipment to Scale" (tools etc.) too.
As an aside, based on my Norton experience, I wouldn't place too much reliance on a contract-marked Spare Parts List giving absolutely (or even remotely !) correct contract-specific information.
They clearly went to print at the moment the contract was placed but actual production could have started some time later. It's also not certain that all updates were included in text and / or illustrations, nor were improvements held over to a contract change. They were incorporated into production as soon as practicable.
Whilst they're fascinating for showing trends and changes over time when taken in conjunction with each-other, on their own they give a very incomplete picture.
Hi folks
Drop me an email if you want a copy of the 1940 parts list & the supplement I have to hand here
Note
I’m away on a 4 day vintage motorcycle event - once I get time - I can send to you
