Yes, Rob is right, but generally speaking, the panel tank bikes were a left over from the pre-war civilian years, and were not needed for Military use, so were phased out early in the war, this went to extremes later on, 1944-45, when no ammeters were fitted in the headlamp anymore, and the switch was moved under the saddle, to reduce wiring lengths, and future wiring breakage around the headstock, as that was a big problem at the time.
