Unfortunately after 80 years of service my G3L front wheel bearing failed during the Normandie campaign last week. Any tips where to buy these in the Netherlands (since Johan Geertshuis stopped with his shop)?
Furthermore my chronometric speedo makes a screeching dry sound when turning. Can I easily service this with some thin droplets of oil or is there a specialist known in the Netherlands?
All tips are welcome, Wicky
Ps, I've a nice movie made at the start of our Pegasus trip on June 5th, but no experience in downloading to this forum. Any volunteers to post it in my name?
On AJS/Matchless the wheel bearings are tapered roller bearings like a BSA M20 wheel bearing. But the problem is that unlike a M20 where the bearing has an inner race, on a AJS/Matchless the inner bearing race is the wheel axle. When you went to the dealer many years ago to get a new wheel bearings, the one part number was the whole axle bearing assembly (axle, outer race and bearing). The outer race was also not a standard size. Andrew Engineering used to make a modern replacement for the bearings.
If you want to convert to regular bearing you will need to make a new axle and spacers. So a lathe is a necessity.
The thing is, this antiquated forum system does not send out notifications, and for people only looking once a month, it might seem ungrateful, but he has already found a set of bearings I heard.
