s-l1600-1

Here is the frame number which corresponds to 1943 I think. Are the tank and seat correct? I sold my G3L about 10 years ago and have regretted it ever since, just looking for a rough project bike

Re: Matchless G3L with original ww2 paint on ebay.

Not WW2 paint or markings, probably postwar use, it's not in the Key Cards, so was sold off by the army before 1947.

The C number on the tank is totally wrong, so that has been painted on recently. It should be C5802651.

But not a bad bike for the money.

Cheers,

Re: Matchless G3L with original ww2 paint on ebay.

The tank looks ok, but there were 4-5 different shapes for Matchless during the war. But that one might be post war if the bayonette filler cap is anything to go by. The correct cap is the internal grip pie crust cap.

The saddle and it's cover look reasonable enough although its been jacked up some. The O/S saddle spring is correct but the other one is a later war universal spring that has been lashed on.

The rear carrier and handlebar levers are post war civilian. The tool box/horn/headlamp are all missing. It's worth considering that the absolute correct parts could cost up to 3 grand when you can ever find them. Ron

Ron, didn't notice the tank cap! eagle eyed!! the rear mudguard stays are a shambles too!

Either it's a very old restauration, or all fake patina applied!

yes post war fuel tank, wrong exhaust, probably wrong seat, wrong left side riders foot rest, like you say lex the rear stays are wrong, it looks like its been brushed with something the make look older but i spoes it was a display bike, other than that it all seems ok, not a bad project
