Does anyone know at what point the crankcase shield changed from what I think was the second pattern to the third pattern?

The slightly beaten-up one in the picture came from a Contract C9310 bike but I don't know if these continued through to contract C12424 as the only pictures I have found of bikes from that contract don't show that detail.
