Remove Grease From Gearbox

Hi - I have a civilian M20 which has semi fluid grease in the gearbox. What’s the best way to remove the grease please (without dismantling or removing the gearbox from the bike). I was thinking of pouring in some sort of solvent to dissolve the grease and flush it out the drain hole. I want to use the proper oil in the gearbox as I understand grease is not ideal. Thoughts thanks

Re: Remove Grease From Gearbox

I think that is your only option as grease is not good in those gearboxes. Maybe fill it with petrol and spin it and drain and repeat a few times. Ron

Re: Remove Grease From Gearbox

Solvent will remove the bulk of the grease, but not in the bronze bushes.
Do a few oil changes in quick succession, gently ridding the bike between each change.

Re: Remove Grease From Gearbox

If someone filled it with grease there was probably a reason for it..like it wouldn't hold oil.
A stripdown is probably on the cards anyway. :slightly_frowning_face:
