I need to order some stencils for the tank on my M20 from Axholme. The frame number is 74329, I think the number on the tank should be 4754912, but I'm not sure, please could someone with the relevant information check to see if I'm correct (or wrong)😁.

Frame number WM20.74329 was built under contract C/13290. This was a contract for 10.000 bikes (5000 RASC, 5000 RAOC). Frame numbers were #71818 - #81817. There were two blocks of census numbers: C4752401 - C4757400 and C4860801 - C4865800. The census number of your bike would indeed have been C4754912.

The factory ledgers for this contract no longer exist, so I can't give you an "exact" build date (day / month / year) I'm afraid... But we can "accurately" calculate the month / year: 74329 was approximately the 2500th bike from this contract. Production started at the end of November 1942, @ 400 bikes per week (approximately). This means that your bike must have left the factory in December 1942.

After the war it was still in use with the BAOR, as this number appears in the KeyCards (card number 196a, Lex can do you a hi-res scan of this card). The post war ERM registration number was 26YD24.
