I guess the number mentioned 2576142 is the C number. Just in case the new owner of 2576142 is still around.

I'm quite sure that is his army number. As in "Name, Rank and Number" Ron

Indeed, Ron, from the Royal Corps of Signals block 2303001 - 2604000 so someone who joined up prior to the processing of new recruits via the General Service Corps.
