sticky carb

Having left my B33, with it's new 289 carb, to languish in the back of the garage since 2019 the inevitable has happened and it is now coated with a sticky residue of what was once petrol.

I am slowly stripping it but I'd like to avoid applying too much brute force and soak it in anything that can help dissolve the gunk first.

Anyone got recommendations for such a magic potion? Anything that I should avoid, ie anything likely to dissolve the carb or parts,?

cheers
Pete

Re: sticky carb

a combination of volatile and evil smelling fluids found in the dark recesses of the shed seems to have done the trick. Jet block out and all seems to be clear now. Bike even started!!

Re: sticky carb

I think that was in the mix...nitro...something-or-other, according to the German label it's a universal solvent. Splashed a bit of acetone and brake cleaner around for good measure and make sure my lungs got a good clean out as well. :grimacing:
